Later in the year, Apple will release a new iPad mini. This is reported by Mark Gurman and Debbie Wu of Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the topic. A well-known insider Min-Chi Kuo shared similar information a month ago:
According to the publication, the new iPad mini “will receive narrower screen bezels and will lose the Home button.” Journalists don’t say this directly, but the design of the current fourth generation iPad Air and iPad Pro can be described in the same way.
It is not known which method of user identification Apple prefers: the iPad Pro has Face ID, the new Air has Touch ID combined with the power button:
Bloomberg says nothing about the screen. However, back in the spring of 2020, Ming-Chi Kuo said that the tablet will receive a display with a diagonal of 8,5-9 inches. That is, to all appearances, Apple has taken the path of preserving the dimensions of the case.
Bloomberg does not name specific release dates, only claiming that the tablet will be released at the end of the year. Probably, we are talking about an October or November presentation. Although Apple may announce new items on its Apple Newsroom site.
In addition, Bloomberg authors mentioned the most affordable iPad. According to them, Apple is going to make it thinner than the current model. It will also be released “at the end of the year.”
The iPad mini will be redesigned for the first time on a tablet in six years. The fifth generation was released in March 2019. Then the tablet received a new at that time system-on-chip Apple A12 and compatibility with the first generation Apple Pencil.
