Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez whips up storm with ‘Tax the Rich’ dress at New York’s elite Met Gala

The fundraiser, hosted at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, pays for the museum’s Costume Institute.

During an interview on the red carpet, Ms Ocasio-Cortez said she and the dress’s designer, Aurora James, discussed “what it means to be working-class women of color at the Met.”

“And we said, we can’t just play along, but we need to break the fourth wall and challenge some of the institutions, and while the Met is known for its spectacle, we should have a conversation about it,” the Congresswoman said.

“We have conversations about a fair tax curve [but] often at times these conversations are happening among working and middle class people and I think it’s time we bring all classes into the conversation of having a fairer country.”

“We need to have a conversation in this country about working families,” she added.
