For that special Christmas occasion, I would not buy a sequinned pyjama-style two-piece. But I would happily loan this fine ensemble from Hurr Collective for a day or two. Designed by In The Mood For Love, the top is available to rent from £46, the bottoms from £41. How cool is that?
Some clothes see more wear than others. This wardrobe breakdown is often referred to as the 80:20 principle. We wear approximately 20 per cent of our clothes, 80 per cent of the time. And the hardly worn 80 per cent sees the light of day 20 per cent of the time. Party clothes fall into the latter category.
Rather than frittering money on a fancy new party outfit that’s harmful to the environment and will swiftly join the 80 per cent lurking at the back of the wardrobe, why not make do and lend?
And finally, three cheers for Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie Bradshaw in SATC and the sequel. In a recent Vogue interview she slapped down Instagram trolls for criticising her appearance. Obviously, none of us look like we did 20 years ago but the subject of the 56-year-old actress’s wrinkles and grey hair has caused an online frenzy.
“There’s so much misogynistic chatter in response to us, that would never happen about a man,” she said. “It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly OK with where we are. Whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better. I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop ageing? Disappear?”
Much better to headline a fabulous show and inspire women of all ages.
