Five weeks under Russian shelling: how a 77-year-old owner of an animal shelter survived the occupation along with her wards

February 24 will forever remain in the memory of the seventy-seven-year-old owner of the shelter, Asya Serpinskaya, as one of the most terrible days in her life.

Enemy planes flew over her head, and shells exploded nearby, but she was not afraid and did not leave the animals.

The owner of the Gostomel shelter for dogs and cats, Asya Serpinskaya, together with her assistants, survived five weeks of Russian occupation. She is still – most of all hurt by the memories of the death of animals from shrapnel, and when the dogs were shot by the Russians.

How the shelter comes to its senses after the horror experienced – it was said in TSN .

About seven hundred dogs live in the Gostomel shelter. There are hundreds more cats. And they all survived the horrors of the occupation

February 24 will forever remain in the memory of the seventy-seven-year-old owner of the shelter, Asya Serpinskaya, as one of the most terrible days in her life. As soon as the woman found out that Russian troops had entered Ukraine, she left her family and traveled from Kyiv to her wards by several means of transport. To leave them and a few other employees who were here – she says that she could not.

The next day, the light went out in the shelter. The Russians damaged communications. The water from the well has disappeared. Difficult times have begun.

Refrigerators with food for animals did not work either. Save the generator. It was bought by volunteers. And he brought, risking his life, the husband of Asya Serpinskaya.

All 5 weeks of the siege, the shelter was under crossfire. The woman still collects fragments of deadly iron

Such iron killed a dozen dogs. A few old people’s hearts gave out. It hit so hard that the ground shook. Around the clock – continuous. Like a mention of Russian atrocities – a funnel in the middle of a shelter.

Animals have only recently begun to recover from shock. But loud sounds are still afraid. Kafirs also entered the territory. The cats were not touched. But some dogs were shot point-blank.

There is also a rooster in the shelter. When the Russians heard their singing, they did not pass by.

Despite the fact that they lived under constant shelling, Asya Serpinskaya and her assistants tried to drive away the alarm. They even rescued other people’s animals. Near this shelter there are several more buildings where other people kept animals. And those who remained during the war themselves. Among them was a lion. At the entrance to the enclosure, the Russians installed a banner so that the predator would not die of starvation, they had to negotiate with the occupiers about demining. Through several blocks of cigarettes.

Staying and not leaving the animals – this courageous woman has no regrets. Because the asylum gave more than 20 years of her life. Now Asya wants only one thing: that all the tails would find loving owners and never know fear again.
