There are numerous cases of civilian deaths.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR – ed.) collects testimonies and evidence in Ukraine of violations committed during the Russian invasion, which can be recognized as war crimes.
High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet said this at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform writes .
“Many of these allegations relate to violations that can be recognized as war crimes,” she said.
We are talking about numerous cases of civilian deaths, in particular due to attacks on a hospital, a drama theater in Mariupol, a railway station in Kramatorsk, residential areas in Odessa, etc.
Bachelet added that her team visited Bucha, where they recorded numerous facts of civilian deaths, executions of men, rape of women, kidnappings, and talked to victims and witnesses of violations on the spot.
Most of the deaths, according to her, are caused by heavy artillery shelling, multiple launch rocket systems, rocket and air strikes, and in some places snipers shoot at civilians.
Even on the day of the visit of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Kyiv to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, two rockets were fired at the city, as a result of which a journalist was killed.
The numbers of civilian casualties released daily by OHCHR are underestimated, as data from the battlefields are received with considerable delay.
Recall that the UN Security Council is now discussing the problems of protecting the civilian population and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and in the context of Russian aggression in the framework of the recently adopted agenda of the Republic of Belarus for 2022 “Maintaining Peace and Security of Ukraine”.
