This week, Finnish President Sauli Niinostiio and Prime Minister Sanna Marin are to agree on a position on the country’s entry into the Alliance. According to preliminary information, the decision of the president and government should be announced on Sunday, May 15.

In Sweden, an agreed decision is planned to be made on May 15.
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the governments of Finland and Sweden announced their intention to apply for membership in NATO.
Russia has repeatedly warned both countries against this step.
Recall, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, said that Moscow would deploy nuclear weapons and hypersonic missiles in Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave in the center of Europe, if Sweden and Finland join NATO.
