Review of the submersible wireless blender Polaris PHB 0798L

The Polaris PHB 0798L submersible blender looks like a classic representative of its segment with one significant exception: this blender is a wireless device, that is, it works exclusively from the built-in battery (the device will not work from the mains).

Will the blender have enough battery capacity and motor power to perform common kitchen tasks? We’ll find out during testing.

Equipment

The blender is packaged in a small and lightweight black cuboid box. The box has a plastic carrying handle.

The box itself is designed in the Polaris corporate style using full-color printing: on the front side we see colorful photos of the blender, as well as the included accessories. On the side faces – additional technical information and a detailed description of key structural elements.

Opening the box, inside we found:

  • motor block
  • submersible nozzle with knife
  • mixing glass (a.k.a. measuring cup)
  • whisk attachment
  • bowl for grinding
  • lid for bowl
  • removable knife in the bowl
  • puree maker
  • stand for nozzles
  • Charger
  • manual
  • warranty card and promotional materials

All parts of the device are packed in thick plastic bags, and also tightly packed in a box, which makes it impossible for them to be damaged during transportation.

As we can see, our blender has an extended package: in addition to the classic chopping attachment and the whisk attachment, we got a separate chopping bowl and a mashing attachment.

At first sight

And the blender itself and all accessories are designed in a strict style. The main materials from which the device and all kinds of nozzles are made are black matte plastic, transparent plastic, and stainless steel. This combination not only looks stylish, but also (due to the fact that the plastic is matte, not glossy) does not collect dirt too much (primarily fingerprints) and feels comfortable when tactile contact is made. Let’s take a closer look at all the elements.

The body of the Polaris PHB 0798L motor block is made of black matte plastic with a metal steel insert, on which we see the Polaris logo and the power of the device is 700 watts. At the top of the insert is a control zone consisting of two mechanical buttons. The plastic looks and feels like a “better than average” material. Tactilely, it resembles a soft-touch coating, although, of course, the plastic is much harder here.

The blender and one of the nozzles are vertically installed in a special plastic stand, so that the minimum set can be stored directly on the desktop (you still have to look into the cabinet or drawer for the rest of the nozzles).

At the top of the motor unit there is a connector for connecting the charger (it is hidden under a rubber stopper), as well as an LED charge indicator.

The blender nozzle is made of stainless steel, and the knife has a titanium coating, thanks to which, as the manufacturer promises, the equipment will last even longer.

The small knife has four blades, each with one sharp edge.

The two petals on the knife are bent. The metal hemisphere around the knife has a complex shape with slots, which theoretically should improve the quality of grinding.

A collapsible whisk attachment is standard: it consists of a plastic base and a metal nozzle with wires.

The plastic masher has plastic blades and many holes. The principle of operation of the nozzle is simple: potatoes are captured by the blades and forced through the holes.

To install this nozzle, we need an additional plastic adapter. In the photo below, it is located on the right, and on the left we see the base of the whisk attachment.

The set comes with a durable plastic glass with a working volume of 600 ml. The glass does not have a spout, but there is a plastic lid and graduation in milliliters.

The bowl for grinding is also made according to the classical scheme: it is a “glass” with a wide neck, made of impact-resistant plastic. A removable knife is installed on the central pin.

At the bottom of the bowl there is a rubber ring that prevents slipping.

Chopping knife – two-bladed, standard shape.

To fix any of the nozzles, you need to combine the motor block with the nozzle in accordance with the hint icons, and then rotate the block relative to the nozzle by several degrees.

The battery charging adapter has a 1 meter cord with a round plug at the end. At the output, the adapter produces 12 V / 1 A.

According to the results of the external examination, we liked the blender. It looks stylish, the build quality is decent, the materials look quite good. Especially (taking into account not the highest price) it was nice to find a stand and a nozzle for mashing in the kit.

Instruction

The instruction manual is a 48-page black and white book in several languages. The share of Russian accounts for 15 pages, having studied which we will receive comprehensive information about how the device works and how to use it correctly.

Here you can find all the standard sections: description of the device and safety instructions, preparation for work and operation, rules for using nozzles and even a table with the recommended chopper operation time depending on the type of product (as well as the recommended weight of the products to be chopped).

Control

The control process is very simple and intuitive. The upper button with a lock symbol blocks the operation of the device, the second one turns on the blender at the only available speed (it is also the maximum). The blender does not have a smooth speed control.

In order for the blender to turn on, you must first press the lock button and, while holding it, press the power button. In such a simple way, protection from children is implemented. I must say that we didn’t really like this solution: to start the blender, you need to hold down two buttons (and not one, as usual), while the lock button needs to be pressed quite hard (at first we pressed it with standard force, and even thought that the device has broken). In our opinion, this interferes with convenient and comfortable work.

The LED indicator on the top of the case will glow red while the battery is charging and blue when the battery is fully charged.

Exploitation

Before the first use, the manufacturer recommends washing and drying all parts of the blender, except for the motor unit, and also fully charge the battery (this will take about 1.5 hours). The motor unit and the tops of the attachments can be wiped with a damp cloth and then with a dry cloth.

Installing any of the nozzles in the socket of the motor unit is easy, by combining the hint icons and turning the nozzle relative to the body. The nozzles are removed in the reverse order.

The blender sits comfortably and without slipping in the hand, however, we found it not very convenient to press both buttons (which is required to start working). The rather large weight of the device also attracted attention: almost 640 grams when using a standard nozzle.

The continuous operation time, according to the instructions, is 1 minute with a 3-minute break for the blender, 1 minute with a 5-minute break for the bowl, 3 minutes with a 5-minute break for the whisk attachment, and 1 minute with a mandatory three-minute break during puree preparation. In this case, it is allowed to perform two cycles in a row, after which (as we understood from the instructions) the device may need a longer rest.

What does this all mean in practice? In most cases, a minute will be more than enough to complete the vast majority of household tasks. However, it is worth remembering that if you are going to blend, for example, multi-liter pots of soup, then the process can be significantly delayed.

Additional restrictions turned out to be as follows: the glass is allowed to be filled to 2/3 of its volume (which corresponds approximately to 500 ml), it is forbidden to grind solid ingredients (nuts, ice cubes, frozen foods), and the product itself must be in a liquid (broth, juice, sauce etc.). When working with a whisk, it is allowed to beat no more than four eggs or 400 ml of cream.

Care

The rules for cleaning the blender turned out to be quite obvious: the working parts of the used attachments, with the exception of the motor block, chopper cover, whisk adapter and nozzle gearbox, can be washed under running water. Do not wash the tops of the nozzles with water. It is also forbidden to wash the parts of the appliance in the dishwasher.

The body of the motor unit, the chopper cover, the whisk adapter and the tops of the attachments may be wiped with a soft, damp cloth.

If you strictly follow these recommendations, then all kinds of splashes and particles of products that have fallen on parts that are afraid of water will have to be removed with rags and napkins. Not the most convenient solution. If you neglect the manufacturer’s recommendations and start rinsing all the parts under the tap, then in which case you can lose the right to warranty service. The choice, as they say, is yours.

Note that with special care you need to wash the knives: after grinding thick products, a large amount of dirt may remain on them, which will have to be removed manually – very carefully.

Our measurements

The declared power of the device is from 100 W (rated power) to 700 W (maximum power). For obvious reasons, we were unable to verify this data (the blender does not work from the network, which means that it will not work to use the wattmeter). However, according to our subjective feelings, the declared parameters are very similar to the real ones.

As for the battery charge, we conducted the entire series of tests without connecting the device to the charger. We also conducted a series of 3-minute test runs by immersing the blender in a glass of water (it is forbidden to turn on the device without load). It turned out that in this mode the blender worked for 33 minutes, which is consistent with the declared duration of work – up to 30 minutes. Of course, we should not forget here that if we grind thick and “complex” products, then the actual operating time of the device may turn out to be slightly less. A fully discharged battery is charged, as stated by the manufacturer, in 1.5 hours.

The noise level of the blender reached 86 dBA, but on average it stayed at the level of 82-84 dBA.

practice tests

We tested all nozzles by testing with different products of different consistency. Here’s what we got.

tomatoes

For our obligatory tomato dough, we took 500 grams of fruit and cut them into quarters.

Chop the tomatoes with a blender and the included glass.

This is the result obtained with the help of a blender nozzle. Grinding time is about 30 seconds.

We got a homogeneous airy tomato mixture with distinct skin particles and a small amount of whole seeds.

The experiment was then repeated using the grinder bowl.

In our opinion, the tomatoes were crushed a little better.

The mixture is thicker and more voluminous. Particles of the peel, however, were present in this case as well.

Result: good

fresh greens

We chopped fresh herbs in a bowl designed for this.

Green onions were chopped in seconds.

True, a small number of fairly large pieces stuck to the walls.

We then added the dill and started chopping for a few more seconds.

The result completely satisfied us. Well, if you mix the contents of the bowl manually (for example, using a silicone spatula), you will be able to get rid of large green particles.

Result: excellent

Broccoli cutlets

For this test, we took broccoli and lightly boiled it in boiling water.

Then sliced and placed in a bowl.

Started the grinding process for 25-30 seconds.

Separately chopped onion head. Salt, pepper, raw eggs were added, cutlets were formed and lightly baked in the oven.

We were pleased with the final result: no unground particles were found in the finished cutlets.

Result: excellent

Banana, frozen berries, oatmeal and milk smoothie

For the next test, we have chosen a set of ingredients that will test the capabilities of the blender from all sides: milk, soft banana, frozen cherries and dry oatmeal will show how well the device will handle frozen, sticky and dry foods.

We added all the ingredients one by one to the glass, added the right amount of milk and started blending.

The blender crushed everything in just 15 seconds, turning the contents of the glass into a thick substance saturated with air bubbles.

The consistency of the smoothie was homogeneous, no unground particles were found.

Result: excellent

Baba Ganoush

For cooking, we baked eggplant and garlic in the oven.

The baked eggplant was placed in a plastic bag, the garlic was allowed to cool.

They put eggplant, garlic, a little tahini, parsley in a glass, added a little olive oil and lemon juice.

All the ingredients were crushed, but we didn’t get the characteristic “suction” effect right away: first we had to mix the contents properly and move the nozzle, from which we conclude that our blender, of course, is suitable for preparing thick mixtures, but you should not expect perfect and quick result.

Result: good

Puree

To prepare the puree, we boiled the potatoes and also warmed up the milk.

We added a few pieces of butter to the potatoes, armed ourselves with a mashed potato nozzle and began cooking.

In a matter of seconds, our potatoes turned into a homogeneous substance without any signs of lumps.

The best result, perhaps, could not be desired.

Result: excellent

cream soup

We decided to cook cream soup according to an Indian recipe. First, they put coriander and cumin seeds, peppercorns and curry leaves in a saucepan and warmed up.

Add onion and turmeric and sauté until golden brown.

Added ginger and garlic and fried.

Add the tomatoes and cook until they are soft.

Throw in cilantro.

Remove the pan from the heat and grind the contents with a blender.

Added salt, honey, boiled water and coconut milk. We put lentils, chicken pieces in a saucepan and cooked for about 20 more minutes until the lentils were ready.

The result is an excellent and hearty spicy soup.

Result: excellent

findings

The Polaris PHB 0798L submersible blender proved to be a high-quality and rather powerful device (especially considering that we have a battery-powered device!). We were pleased not only with the appearance of the device, but also with the materials from which it is made, and extended equipment.

The blender coped with all the proposed tests without any problems, and it had little difficulties only when preparing a thick pasta (baba ghanoush).

We liked both the chopping bowl and the mashing attachment. In general, in our opinion, the Polaris PHB 0798L proved to be more than worthy both in terms of food preparation and in terms of the duration of work without recharging: all tests were performed without connecting the device to the charger.

Among the shortcomings, we note a relatively high noise level and a somewhat strange (in our opinion) control, which implies that the user must first unlock the device by pressing the security button, and only then proceed directly to work. Of course, we understand that child protection is important, but for some reason other blender manufacturers do not resort to such solutions.

Pros :

  • build quality and materials
  • good price for such functionality
  • extended equipment
  • long operating time without recharging

Cons :

  • relatively high noise level
  • Annoying automatic lock function (protection from children)
