Moscow sees Ukraine either as a vassal in its exclusive sphere of influence, or does not see it at all. Putin blackmailed Yanukovych over the signing of the Association Agreement, and since then, not only has nothing changed – on the contrary, Russia has started a war against Ukraine.

This was stated by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

“Lavrov said today that Russia “does not consider harmless” Ukraine’s membership in the EU. Who would doubt it. For Russia,” it smelled of fried “- the status of a candidate for Ukraine. According to the politician, this can help us move forward in the EU. Many politicians in the EU, who were very afraid of Putin’s blackmail and escalation, now have nothing to fear.

“The war has changed everything, and right now is a great moment to open the gates of the EU for us. Everyone now understands where the border between Europe and Asia runs, and most importantly: why Ukrainians are Europeans by mentality, and Russians are the same medieval horde.

Klimkin noted that this could be the key test of the 21st century for the EU: to be strong together with Ukraine and look to the future, or to be weak, play for time and “pull the cat” and, of course, yourself, by the tail.

“It is this choice that will determine the future fate of the European Union, and I believe in our common destiny,” he concluded.

Recall that already in June , European leaders will discuss the application for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The European Commission is processing the questionnaires that Ukraine has already transferred to the EU.
