“The first question is whether there is a tattoo”: a teacher from Mariupol spoke about interrogations in a filtration camp

Despite the humanitarian catastrophe and the threat of epidemics, more than 100 thousand people remain in Mariupol – these are the calculations of the Mariupol City Council. The only way to leave the city is to undergo interrogation in the filtration camp, which the invaders set up around Mariupol.

In the issue of Snidanok z 1+1, an English teacher from Mariupol told how she passed through the filtration camp and was able to leave the city. However, the woman is still in the uncontrolled territory, therefore, for security reasons, her name is not disclosed.

“The filtration camp is a line of cars. You can come to the filtration either by bus or by your own transport,” the woman explains.

A resident of Mariupol says that she went to the filtration in her own transport.

“We were traveling by our own transport, so I will tell you about my filtering option. This is the line in which cars get in the village of Bezimennoye, near Novoazovsk. This line stretches for several meters, and when you drive up there, they give you a car number and you write in a notebook, to the queue, where you indicate the make of the car, the number of the car and how many people will be filtered. And you get in line, “says the woman.

In the queue for the so-called filtration, people had to wait for 12 days.

“We waited for our turn for 5 days, but it can be different for everyone. It can be 6 days, and if someone is lucky, it can be 4-3 days. But in March, our neighbors waited for 12 days,” the woman says.

According to her, it is possible to leave the car queue, however, it is not always possible to return to your place for various reasons. Therefore, those who missed their turn will have to wait again for 5 days.

According to the woman, the occupiers have placed three tents there, to which 5 cars drive up. People from cars are taken to tents for interrogation. In one, women are questioned, in the other, men and teenagers. And in the third tent they are already taking photos of Mariupol residents and entering their data into computers.

“There were two women in the women’s tent who questioned us. The first question was whether there were tattoos. I didn’t have one, so I didn’t show anything. And others, apparently, showed who had them. I don’t know what exactly they ask about tattoos. They also ask if there are military men among acquaintances and relatives, whether there are acquaintances who work or worked in the police, and the State Emergency Service. They, as I understand it, are interested in contacts. Already in the last tent, people’s phones are checked, “says teacher from Mariupol.

The woman says that she was interviewed for the longest time at the filtration.

“In filtration, teachers and people who were related to the administration and know the contacts of deputies, etc. are more interrogated,” she says.

The occupiers asked the teacher where the personal files of children are kept in the educational institution and where one can find information about their parents.

“They ask if there were parents in our educational institution who were military, worked in the police or the State Emergency Service. I understand that they are trying to compile some kind of database. They also asked if the military came to our school,” notes female.

A teacher from Mariupol says that there are people who do not pass the filter.

“There are people who are in Mariupol who have not been filtered, because, firstly, there is a huge queue, and secondly, not everyone has transport to go to the filtering,” the woman says.

According to her, those Mariupol residents who have not passed the filtration are not allowed to travel by transport, they can only move on foot, and if the occupiers stop such a person, he will have to explain that his turn for filtration has not yet come.

“But there is news that if you don’t have filtration, then you won’t be able to move around the city. You need to have a passport, you need to have this filtration,” the woman concluded.
