President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The speech of the head of state was devoted to the situation in Ukraine due to the war unleashed by Russia.
In his speech, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about sanctions, about the situation in the country, about the aggressor country. By the way, for the first time in 35 years, the economic forum was held without the participation of representatives of Russia.

“Instead of successful peaceful cities – black ruins. Instead of normal trade – mined seas and blocked ports in Ukraine. Instead of tourism – closed skies and thousands of Russian cruise bombs and missiles. This is what the world will look like if humanity misses this turning point. It looks like a very large collection of war crimes,” the head of state said.
The Russians use only brute force on those they want to conquer, so that humanity has a chance to exist – Russia must be stopped immediately, the president added.
On the reaction of the world to the war in Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that history is changing, there are new challenges that require action, not just reaction.
“History remembers many moments when everything changed dramatically, remembers how just a few shots can lead to the death of millions of people, if these are shots on June 28, 1914 in Sarajevo. History remembers how much grief one person can bring if she sees that it is not sufficiently resisted.As it was, for example, in Munich in 1938. Historical turns were noticeable and not very noticeable, but they always had to be reacted to.Trying to prepare for other historical breaks.As they say, spread straws, or trying to to heal the wounds from the catastrophes that were behind this or that historical turn. Now we have a large collection of such reactions: the UN charter with all divisions of the organization, the OSCE, the IAEA, the WTO, many other important institutions. But are they enough to respond to what what we are facing today, but is it possible now to get by with trying to adapt these institutions to modern challenges? Don’t react, but act. And to act preventively, not only to adapt what we have to the new realities. And create new tools. New precedents,” he said.

“We stopped the Russian army, which we called the ‘second army’ of the world. And at the cost of heavy fighting, at the cost of thousands of lives, we are gradually pushing the occupiers out of our land,” he said.
Sanctions against Russia
Zelensky called on the West to impose an embargo on Russian oil, to block Russian banks and the IT sector.
“Do not expect fatal shots, do not wait for Russia to use special weapons, chemical, biological, nuclear, God forbid. Do not give the aggressor the illusion that the world is not resisting enough. Protect immediately to the maximum freedom and normal order in the world. This is what sanctions should be: maximum, so that Russia and every other potential aggressor who wants to start a brutal war against a neighbor knows clearly right away what this will lead to, ”Zelensky said.
On the restoration of Ukraine
Ukraine offers the world to create such a precedent for the restoration of the country after the war, which will demonstrate to everyone who dreams of destroying the life of a neighbor that the war does not give the desired result. The amount of work is enormous.
“We offer a special, historical and weighty recovery model, when each of the partner countries, or partner cities, or partner companies will have the opportunity to take patronage over one or another region of Ukraine, city or community or industry. The UK, Denmark, the EU and other leading international actors have already chosen a specific direction for recovery. Thanks to just such a model, the post-war reconstruction can become fast, efficient and of high quality,” the President emphasized.
In addition, during the speech, the President announced the sad news. On the territory of the Desna military unit in the village of the same name in the Chernihiv region , 87 people were killed by a Russian missile strike on May 17.
According to him, only today the rescuers and the military have finished clearing the rubble.
“Unfortunately, 87 victims were found under the rubble. 87 corpses, killed lives,” the head of state said.
