Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that attempts to appease an aggressor are always counterproductive, as he perceives the desire for peace as a sign of weakness and demands more after every concession. Therefore, there is only one way to prevent a world war – to help Ukraine win the war with Russia.
The head of the Presidential Office recalled that tens of thousands of people had already died in this war , millions were forced to flee.
Yermak said this during a virtual speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on May 24, Ukrinform writes .
He continued that no one can get away from the crimes that the Russian military committed in Bucha, Mariupol, Chernigov and dozens of other Ukrainian cities. Even under these conditions, Ukraine sometimes hears calls to make concessions to the aggressor.
” We continue to hear calls for surrender in the name of peace in Europe. Some of our partners offer us to give the aggressor the opportunity to save face, offer negotiations around the so-called territorial disputes. But how is this possible when Russia demonstrates its intention to destroy Ukraine and calls Ukrainians “wrong Russians “? How can anyone expect this, given the numerous evidence of acts of genocide that were committed against Ukrainians by Russian troops?” Yermak said.
Therefore, he noted, Ukraine’s immediate goal is to stop Russia’s brutal aggression and ensure the complete withdrawal of its troops from its territory.
The head of the OP noted that, as history teaches, attempts to appease the aggressor are always counterproductive, since the aggressor always perceives the desire for peace as a sign of weakness and demands more after each concession.
“There is only one way to avoid the escalation of this war into a continental or even a world one. Help Ukraine win . Now you are not participating in this war. Just help us do it, otherwise tomorrow you will have to send your own troops into battle,” warned the head of the OP, addressing the forum participants.
“Your assistance to Ukraine is a way of balancing the politics of values and ‘realpolitik’. This is the way to send a clear signal to all potential and future aggressors that their actions will not go unpunished,” Yermak stressed.
Recall that the head of the Presidential Office on the same day said that in order to liberate the territories from the invaders , Ukraine needs more weapons and tougher sanctions against Russia.
