In the A-series there is an unconditional bestseller – this is the Galaxy A51 model, as well as the Galaxy A50 a year earlier, while the pair, the younger Galaxy A31 model has never reached comparable sales. There are several reasons for this, one of the main ones being the worse price / quality ratio than the Galaxy A51. Plus, due to the massiveness of the Galaxy A51, it quickly received various discounts, which made the cost of these models comparable, and it became pointless to choose a junior device. Therefore, we can safely assume that the Galaxy A3x is an assortment offer, moreover, they have always tried to achieve a favorable cost for the manufacturer. This is a typical offer of a smartphone for a person who comes to a store and simply chooses a device based on what he sees on the shelf, for those who are too lazy to spend a little time making an informed choice.
In 2021, prices for smartphones are slowly growing upward, Samsung set one of the main tasks to keep the cost of the Galaxy A32 at the level of its predecessor, since it is the price that becomes one of the key factors when choosing. Therefore, we see a slightly different design of the Galaxy A32, these changes are not so significant, almost the same screen, chipset, memory size and a comparable set of cameras. By little things, you can dial more than a dozen changes, but in fact we have a tuning model of the previous year, which was changed with little blood. There is nothing wrong with that, as apart from the Galaxy A52, which will be announced later, this model looks interesting. But just like a year earlier, she goes into the shadows in front of her older brother, who is more interesting in every sense. Therefore, the release of the Galaxy A32 was postponed, but the A52 will appear later to give a slight advantage to this device.
I think that for those who are looking for a mid-range smartphone, it is worth waiting for the Galaxy A52 and then consciously comparing both the prices and the capabilities of the devices. I am sure that it is the Galaxy A52 that will become a bestseller and will sell very well, perhaps just like the A51 will become the best-selling smartphone in Russia. But is there a certain niche for the Galaxy A32 too? I think that the choice of this device is quite adequate for everyone who is looking for a device for typical tasks, this model is positioned as a youth model. Bright color schemes, it should captivate precisely with the catchiness of the colors, which is why now the colors are called Awesome! Last year it was just a slogan for the Galaxy A31, now it has been transformed into the name of the colors. The design of all smartphones is more or less the same, but here the emphasis is on the strength of the case compared to its predecessor, plus youthful colors. I think this model is well suited for those who choose with their eyes.
Design, dimensions, controls
The key feature of the Galaxy A32 is the back panel, it is glossy, in bright colors, in some colors it is mint.
The first thing that comes to mind is a comparison with the iPhone 11, which uses a similar design.
The solution is winning, but the number of available colors for the Galaxy A32 is much smaller – these are white, black, purple and blue (I have just such a color).
The material used in the A32 is Glasstic (a combination of the words Glass and Plastic). This is plastic covered with a glossy protective layer, which creates the effect of a mirror, in the sun and at different angles the body starts to play, it always looks a little different. The glass does not cover the back panel, it is only used on the screen.
The device measures 1158.9 x 73.6 x 8,4 mm and weighs 184 grams. It fits well in the hand, there are no problems with ergonomics. The screen is flat, which is typical for this segment.
The fingerprint sensor is built into the screen, it reacts to pressing even when the screen is off, this is a certain area at the bottom. Compared to the previous Galaxy A31, sensor speed and accuracy have increased, which can be considered a significant upgrade, many complained about the speed of the fingerprint sensor. But it still works slower than on similar models from Chinese manufacturers.
There is also face unlock and it works great. It is important to note here that both accelerated and conventional recognition are used, the second cannot be deceived with a photo or video. For Samsung Pay, only the fingerprint is used as authorization, so there are no problems either.
On the right side there is a paired volume key and an on / off button. On the opposite side, you can see a slot for two nanoSIM cards and a microSD memory card. The slot is not combined, so you are not limited by anything.
At the bottom there is a speaker output, right there is the main microphone (the second one on the top), as well as a 3.5 mm jack. The loudspeaker on the bottom end sounds good, it is heard well in different conditions.
The presence of two microphones and a noise canceling system in a street, club and other loud places is simply irreplaceable, the device does its job well here.
The bottom line is the excellent build quality, pleasant material and the fact that the model looks more expensive than it really is. I would like to have protection against water, but it is not in the device, just as it is absent from most direct competitors. Also, for obvious reasons, there is no front LED, there was simply no room for it.
Display
The technical characteristics of the screen are as follows – 6.4 inches, 1080×2400 pixels (20: 9), 90 Hz, SuperAMOLED, 411 ppi, automatic brightness control (up to 800 nits), AlwaysOn Display, Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The camera is not built into the screen, this is a cutout in German This does not upset me, but the same Galaxy A51 has a different type of camera, respectively, the technology used here is simpler and cheaper.
The device has AlwaysOn Display, which allows you to see a clock or a screensaver on the screen, notification icons and quickly switch to applications.
The screen received support for 90 Hz, which is nice in the aspect of the interface. But the graphics system has microlags, so this option is often leveled.
The screen settings are typical, you can change the color settings.
The screen remains readable in the sun, the brightness is enough for any work. The diagonal of the screen is ideal for watching videos, viewing photos, reading texts. It’s a versatile smartphone, and the fact that it has such a good display makes it stand out from all the competition. The presence of AMOLED is a huge plus for this segment.
Battery
The smartphone has a built-in 5000 mAh Li-Ion battery, it supports fast charging, and it comes with a 15 Watt charger. There’s no wireless charging, but that’s okay for this segment.
The officially declared battery performance parameters coincide with what we received in the tests:
- Video playback time at maximum brightness – up to 22 hours;
- Audio playback – up to 97 hours;
- Internet browsing via Wi-Fi – up to 20 hours, LTE – up to 20 hours;
- Talk time in 4G – up to 33 hours.
In everyday life, this device works for about two days with automatic adjustment of the backlight brightness (the algorithm adjusts to you, and it is not aggressive at all, the brightness is always comfortable). In this case, the screen time is about 7.5-8 hours.
The full charging time of the battery is about 75-80 minutes.
Memory, chipset, performance
Samsung used the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset (12 nm technology), it has two Cortex A75 cores with a frequency of up to 2 GHz, 6 Cortex A55 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz, graphics Mali G52 MC2. It should be noted here that last year’s Galaxy A31 is actually built on the same chipset, the update is minor, there are almost no changes in it – the same graphics, the same technical process, as a result, the miracle did not happen and the device is perceived in terms of speed exactly like its predecessor.
For the Galaxy A31, I complained that the interface compared to the Galaxy A51 is not so responsive, it slows down a little. In the Galaxy A32, this feeling has not disappeared, despite the fact that there is OneUI 3 here, this shell literally flies on all devices. Immediately there are brakes that cannot be measured, they are subjective. It’s just that the menu freezes a little at some point. I attribute this to the graphics system, which is not optimized to work with OneUI, unlike Exynos processors, where there are simply no such problems.
There are no achievements in synthetic tests, look at the results.
There are two variants of the Galaxy A32 on the market – 4/64 GB base, and 4/128 GB for those who want a model with slightly more internal storage. Memory cards are supported up to 1 TB.
In terms of performance, the Galaxy A32 is last year’s model, which looks sad as progress in this area was necessary. This is one of the reasons I think the Galaxy A32 is far from good value for money.
Communication capabilities
The Galaxy A32 has dual-band Wi-Fi, which is already a big plus, and supports VHT80, which provides good data transfer speeds. Unlike older models, ANT + is not supported. But the set of frequencies for LTE is noticeably lower than that of the same A51.
Bluetooth 5.0 version, NFC (Samsung Pay / Google Pay) is present, everything works just fine.
From the point of view of navigation, everything is also very good (GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / Beidou), a cold start on city streets takes 2-3 seconds, the navigation accuracy is excellent, no complaints.
Camera
The camera interface is familiar to other Samsung models, there are no discoveries here. There are Pro mode, AR Emoji and other effects.
Front camera 20 MP (f / 2.2), bokeh effect, various additional effects, no autofocus. Look at an example of a picture, everything is familiar here and at the level of other models.
The main camera module consists of four lenses.
Let’s look at examples of photos and videos, they are incomparable with flagships, but in their price segment everything is not bad, this is a typical quality for models of this level.
Software – features
The model is originally based on Android 11 and OneUI 3, that is, this is the latest version of the interface, which in the literal sense can be called one of the best in terms of flexibility of settings and capabilities, as well as other points.
A few words about the multimedia capabilities of the device. It has a built-in radio with the ability to record programs. The headphones act as an antenna.
Standard applications are represented by a calculator, file manager, voice recorder and other applications that are necessary for comfortable work out of the box.
Unlike the older models, there are no Bixby scripts here, this is clearly a marketing division into older and younger models. The function is cool and the fact that it is software and is removed from the junior device does not please, the situation is repeated last year.
Impressions
Samsung’s engineering approach to the Galaxy A3x can be described as trying to squeeze the best out of a tight budget. These are mid-range models, but the price / quality ratio is far from optimal. For example, the radio part in the Galaxy A32 is exactly the same as in the Galaxy A31, but there have been no major changes. This is the level of Chinese smartphone manufacturers, where this parameter is not given much attention, since buyers do not know anything about it, do not look at it. Last year, the differences between the A51 and A31 were striking, so the A51 stood head and shoulders above in terms of the quality of communication, the capabilities of the built-in modem. And this is also why the younger model has a 5000 mAh battery, while in the A51 it is 1000 mAh less, the reason for the worse work, the need for high energy consumption.
The cost of the Galaxy A32 in Russia is 19990 rubles for the 64 GB version and 21990 rubles for the 128 GB. For comparison, the predecessor is sold in branded retail for 16500 and 18500 rubles, the differences are minimal and are described to a greater extent by the design, slightly increased strength of the Galaxy A32. But other things being equal, the purchase of the Galaxy A2021 looks adequate in 51, this bestseller remains the best offer in terms of price / quality ratio. The prices for the A51 are the same as the Galaxy A32, but the performance of the A51 is higher in all aspects.
A strong competitor for the Galaxy A32 is the Poco X3 NFC, this model for the 6/128 GB version costs 21990 rubles. The disadvantage for the Poco X3 is the IPS-screen, although someone will consider this, on the contrary, a big plus. Less brightness. Fingerprint sensor on the side. But the processor performance is higher.
Chinese manufacturers have many models in this segment, but in reality they are all somewhat inferior to both the Galaxy A32 and the Poco X3, so I will not list them all. The question is, what are you willing to sacrifice, what to close your eyes to. The Galaxy A32 model suffers from the presence of its predecessors in the person of the A31 and A51, as well as the fact that the A52 will be similar in value within the framework of various promotions. A bright, youthful model, but with almost the same hardware as a year ago. You can choose this device for its appearance, but a rational buyer will look at the same Galaxy A51, as it offers great opportunities and is more optimal in all aspects.
