Positioning
I think from the title of this material you should understand that the Harman Kardon FLY TWS headphones are for those who choose premium devices from HARMAN. It is also the first fully wireless Harman Kardon headphones.
The body of the model is made using aluminum and eco-leather and is protected from moisture according to the IPX5 standard. On the front sides there are touch panels for volume control, receiving calls, switching tracks and calling a voice assistant.
The headphones support connection to two sound sources at once and receive a signal from the last active one. Google Fast Pair technology instantly pairs the earbuds with mobile devices running the Google Android operating system.
The recommended retail price for Harman Kardon FLY TWS is 12 rubles.
“Leather keg”
In order to give the new TWS Harman Kardon earphones the maximum solidity, the designers decided to make the upper part of the case from eco-leather. Surely alligator skin could have been used, but I’m afraid the “greens” would have swooped in right there and brought down the shares of the HARMAN company. Therefore, the polyurethane film on the fabric is our everything: the wolves are fed, and the sheep are safe.
A harman / kardon nameplate flaunts on the top of the lid – so that the people around you know about the noble origin of the device.
The lower part of the case is made of semi-matt black plastic. By the way, there is only one FLY TWS color. Unlike the JBL brand, the Harman Kardon brand creates things for ladies and gentlemen, so everything is strict and decorous here.
The lid is fixed with magnets, but in the open state it does not hold at all: you take out the headphones from the case, trimmed with noble eco-leather, and the lid is constantly closed. It’s embarrassing, right.
On the back there is a USB-C connector and a tiny charge indicator. There is also an indicator under the lid, and next to it, in a recess, there is a headphone pairing button (you need a gilded needle).
Headphones
They are held in place by magnets. Unlike the JBL LIVE 300TWS, they can be removed and reinstalled easily. Still a premium device.
The lower part of the headphones is dark plastic, the middle is dark gray plastic, the edging is metal, the front side is eco-leather.
In general, the design and shape of the case are familiar. There is a microphone, a proximity sensor and a work indicator.
Each “ear” is equipped with sensory zones. For example, voice assistants are assigned to the left, and control to the right. There are also swipe movements here: on the left – TalkThru / Ambient aware, and on the right – the volume up / down.
Many things can be changed in the proprietary Harman Kardon Headphones app.
They sit more or less well in the auricle, but due to the absence of a special bow, they can still fall out with sudden movements of the head sediment… Here you need to select ear pads for yourself. Well, or push the headphones up to the tomatoes.
Due to the design of the headphones, passive isolation is average here. On LIVE 300TWS, one is definitely better.
About sound
Loudness is enough with a margin. As already mentioned above – passive noise isolation is average, active is absent. Although for such money, ANC simply has to be. On the street, you can hardly hear anything, in the train the outside noise is a little annoying, but in the subway you already have to turn the volume up 100%.
Okay, let’s wait for FLY 2.
Low frequencies in this model are expressed implicitly, the skew is greater for middle and high frequencies. The sound is extremely energetic, biting. This is clearly lacking in the JBL LIVE 300TWS.
In HK FLY TWS you can listen to classical works, popular and electronic music, jazz. The Harman Kardon sound seemed to me a little richer than that of the JBL.
As a headset
You are not heard very loudly, the sound periodically becomes electronic. The interlocutor understands that you are communicating using a headset. However, the sound is clear, fairly crisp and legible.
Sample audio recording (MP3) >>>
As is the case with the JBL LIVE 300TWS, the right earpiece is the presenter in the Harman Kardon FLY TWS gadget. That is, you cannot install only the left one and speak or listen to music on it.
Working hours
The case is equipped with a 450 mAh battery, and each of the earbuds is 55 mAh. FLY TWS battery life is the same as 300TWS battery life: up to 8 hours of music and up to 5 hours of talk time. The case can be charged up to three times.
Impression
If in the JBL LIVE 300TWS review I wrote that the first impression was mixed, and later I liked the headphones, then with Harman Kardon it turned out somewhat the opposite: it seemed to me that such expensive headphones should be better in everything than the more affordable 300TWS. But alas.
The volume of speech transmission in headset mode was a little upset, the fit in the auricle is less comfortable, and the lid of the case, which closes by itself.
Reverse side of the coin: pleasant appearance, long battery life, excellent sound.
If you want to save money, you can take a closer look at the JBL LIVE 300TWS. If your noble origin needs to be emphasized by an equally noble brand, then you need to take the Harman Kardon FLY TWS.
There are a lot of competitors: here you have Apple AirPods Pro, and Honor Magic Earbuds, and Huawei Freebuds 3, and Sony WF-1000XM3.
