Positioning

The Honor brand has had a flagship model called the Honor 30 Pro + on the market for a long time. We talked about it in a separate article, we analyzed in some detail all the pros and cons here. In my opinion, the main drawback was the use of a curved screen like the cool gadgets of the past. I have written more than once that such a design is inconvenient in the Google Android system, since no adequate solution has been invented for it. Even the ancestor of curved screens, Samsung, gradually began to abandon these solutions in their new devices (Galaxy Note 20). But the Chinese conveyor is operating at full capacity, so we will get displays of a person, not a “smoker,” at best next year. For the sake of fairness, it is worth noting that almost all major vendors sin with sloping displays.

In defense of the 30 Pro + I can say this: fast processor, lots of memory, amazing smoothness thanks to the 90 Hz refresh rate. Well, cameras are traditionally the best for Huawei.

The Honor 30, as the name implies, is a simplified version of the flagship Honor 30 Pro +. For an ordinary user, the difference between them is minimal: an experienced eye will only notice the lack of rounding of the screen on the sides. And this will be the main reason for choosing the Honor 30 as the main device. Yes, I agree, the 30 Pro + has stereo speakers, the camera is not 40 MP, but 50 MP, Wi-Fi 6 and wireless charging are available. But you will also have to pay 23 rubles. And this is almost Honor 000s.

And here Honor 30s is just the same significantly different from the first two devices. It uses an IPS-matrix of the screen, a weaker processor, simpler camera capabilities, a finger scanner was attached to the side, like in the nova 5T (it is not under the screen).

Between the Honor 30 and the Honor 30s, the price difference is only 4 rubles. And in this case, I see no reason to look towards the 000s, except perhaps because of the IPS screen, which can affect your eyes to a lesser extent than OLED. Although in 30 Pro + and 30 PWM is kept to a minimum.

In general, let’s understand the children Honor 30 (32 rubles) and 000s (30 rubles).

Graphic Design

If we consider the Honor 30, then everything is very simple – it is almost a complete copy of the Honor 30 Pro +. There is a slight tactile difference: the younger version feels like an empty iron can in the hand, while the older version feels more knocked down and tighter. That’s all.

The Honor 30 is much simpler in terms of looks. There is already familiar glass on the back side, the size of the camera modules is smaller (it looks cheaper).

And here it is worth highlighting the advantage of the 30s over the 30s: the latter has a metal lid and, with active interaction with the system, heats up decently. And if the weather is also sunny, the Honor 30 turns into a stove. Pay attention to this.

The faces of smartphones are the same. The only thing I can say is that the Honor 30 has better anti-glare properties, the display looks darker and light reflections are less noticeable. The oleophobic coating is good both there and there.

Unlike the Huawei P40 series, the Honor 30 series has earpiece speakers. I mean, they are bringing the sound outside, and not staying somewhere inside. Who came up with, and most importantly, why, to introduce speakers inside the case? It’s like with 3.5 mm connectors: let’s follow Apple’s lead and remove this ill-fated connector – it will be cool! Yes, it’s not cool, but stupid.

By the way, about the birds. For some reason, Honor 30s retained the mini-jack. I have a suspicion that manufacturers leave the TRS connector in budget models: they say, if without it, then the device is at a higher level, it does not need your outdated 3.5 mm for servants. On the other hand, I have not used wired headphones for 5 years already. Since then, manufacturers have hammered a huge bolt on amplifiers and DACs in smartphones.

Below the Honor 30 there is USB-C, a microphone, a speaker, a slot for two SIM cards. The power button is on the right, there is also a volume control. Above is a microphone and a proximity sensor. On the reverse side there is an impressive module with four cameras and a flash.

The Honor 30 smartphone is sold in green, black and silver (like ours) colors. The Honor 30 is available in lilac, silver (like ours) and black.

Well, the weight and size parameters are plus or minus the same (30 / 30s): 185/190 grams, 160x74x8.1 mm and 162x75x8.6 mm.

The last is vibration. On the Honor 30, it looks like it was originally from the 30s: slow, buzzing and unpleasant. In Honor XNUMXs it is not better, but it works faster.

From the nuances: Honor 30s, lying on its back, rolls over on one side, while the 30 lies flat.

Screens

The Honor 30 comes with a 6.53-inch screen, while the Honor 30 comes with a 6.5-inch screen, with an aspect ratio of 20: 9. The resolution is the same – 1080×2400 pixels. But the matrices are different: in the older model OLED, in the younger one – LTPS. And it’s just heaven and earth.

The Honor 30 has simply amazing picture quality: color saturation, viewing angles, clarity, and so on. After it, the display of Honor 30s seems to be generally black and white (it’s difficult to convey this in the photo).

The maximum screen brightness of the Honor 30 is about 650 cd / m2, the Honor 30s is about 530 cd / m2. From the point of view of PWM: the latter does not have it, and the first has a ripple coefficient not exceeding 10% throughout the entire brightness range – this is cool!

Both devices have front-facing cameras in the screens. On the Honor 30, it is slightly smaller. In addition, there is a fingerprint scanner under the Honor 30’s screen. Works fast. But face recognition works even faster: any angle, any inclination of the face. Unless he sees in complete darkness.

Naturally, the Honor 30 has an AOD. There are not as many watch styles as in Huawei, but not bad either. I use AOD as my night watch. Particularly pleasing is the “Time of day” style: the dial colors change depending on the time of day. If during the day it is not relevant, then at night it helps a lot with blackout curtains: the glow has become yellowish – it means that it is already daybreak. Asleep, it is not always possible to make out the numbers, and it is easy to determine the color. Well, it’s just a cool thing.

Working hours

Both have 4 mAh batteries. If you do not watch a lot of videos on your phone, then the autonomy for you will be about the same: on average 000 – 4.5 hours of screen glow at automatic brightness. When playing a video, the Honor 5.5 shows 30 hours, while the Honor 20s only 30 hours. Gaming drains the Honor 10 in 30-6 hours and the Honor 7s in 30-7 hours. Yes, not the other way around.

In my conditions (two SIM cards, auto brightness) smartphones worked for a full day, and I only charged them late at night. Both smartphones are equipped with 40W power adapters. Charge for an hour and a half.

The first thing worth noting is that both smartphones shoot very well with the main cameras. If you look closely at the details under a magnifying glass, you will notice that the Honor 30s draws the picture a little more pleasantly and naturally.

Second, it’s difficult to determine the winner in the evening or at night. Sometimes the Honor 30 does better, sometimes the Honor 30s. The first loves to embellish the image, suppress all the noise along with the details, increase the exposure. But Honor 30s does everything as it really is: if it’s dark, then the exposure corresponds to reality.

The Honor 30 has 5x optical zoom with stabilization. That’s cool. But in practice, such a large increase is useless. I want either 2x or 3x, but with a high degree of detail. And at the output we have a slightly soapy 8 MP with a high magnification. Portraits are so-so due to the weak module, the sensor is ineffective at night.

And the Honor 30s doesn’t have a zoom camera at all. But both smartphones have almost useless macro lenses.

The front-facing camera is definitely better on the Honor 30. It even has a kind of hardware blurring of the background.

Both devices can write 4K at 30 fps (main camera and 5x zoom in Honor 30). “Shiriks” are designed for 1080p only.

In total: the advantage of Honor 30 is 5x magnification, the advantage of Honor 30s is a little more detail and natural setting of parameters when shooting at night.

Memory, chipset and performance

With the Honor 30s, everything is very simple – 6/128 GB. There are two versions of Honor 30: 8/128 GB and 8/256 GB. I’ll answer right away about RAM: I don’t notice the difference between 6/8/12 GB. There is definitely a difference between 2/3 and 4.

The Honor 30s has a RAM speed of 26 MB / s, which is just the perfect result for such a device. The Honor 000 achieves 30 MB / s in the same test. Straight flagship speeds!

The built-in memory has the following indicators: 680/190 MB / s for the Honor 30s, 640/240 MB / s for the Honor 30.

The processors in the devices are different: the Honor 30 uses the Kirin 985 with 5G support, and the Honor 30s uses the Kirin 820 with 5G support. In real life, there is no difference in performance: system use, games, etc. Even in the Antutu test, smartphones are gaining approximately the same results: 388 for the Honor 000, 30 for the Honor 350s.

I don’t like Honor 30 in terms of heating. I wrote about this earlier. So in the summer, with a load on the processor, be prepared for the phone-pie from the oven.

Software

Inside, MagicUI version 3.1 based on Android 10 is used. There are no Google services here. Today I use the Aurora store – this is an application store that has absolutely all the programs from the Play Market. Another question is that some “devices” will require GMS. But that’s another story.

Musical possibilities

The speaker volume seemed to me higher on the Honor 30. In addition, the sound is slightly more voluminous than on the Honor 30s.

There is a 3.5 mm jack in the Honor 30s. In principle, the mini-jack on the Honor 30 can be plugged in with an adapter – but these are all crutches. I use TWS headphones from different manufacturers. Right now, Honor Magic Earbuds (aka Huawei FreeBuds 3i) are the best choice: excellent sound with active noise cancellation. Bass lovers should take the JBL 300 Live.

Impressions

I will not depart from my line and will express what I voiced at the beginning of the review. It seems to me that it is definitely worth taking the Honor 30 model. An overpayment of only 4 rubles is worth it:

1. OLED matrix without PWM: rich and bright colors, maximum viewing angles, AOD function, scanner under the screen
2. Fresher processor, more RAM (and faster)
3. There is a 5x zoom with optical stabilization. This is definitely better than no magnification at all. The front camera shoots better
4. Prettier appearance

Of course, the Honor 30s also has its positives:

1. Availability of 3.5 mm audio output. Such a decision for myself, but someone will need
2. IPS matrix. If you can’t stand OLED / SuperAMOLED / pOLED and others, then here’s an option
3. Glass case heats up less under CPU load
4. 4 rubles cheaper

Competitors:

• Samsung Galaxy A71 for 30 rubles. Plus or minus the same solution, only trouble with PWM.
• Xiaomi Mi Note 10 lite for 30 rubles. Here you will have purebred Qualcomm, a sea of ​​memory and many cameras, an AMOLED screen and a 000 mAh battery. Without 5260G – what a big deal ?
• Realme 6 Pro for 23 rubles. 000 Hz screen, 90 cameras, 4/8 GB memory, 128 mAh battery and three slots for two SIM cards and a memory card. Why not?
• Vivo V15 Pro for 30 rubles. The processor is from Qualcomm, the screen, as usual, AMOLED, three cameras, a 000 mAh battery. A strange “pepelats”, but fits into the price range of competitors.
• Oppo Reno 3 for 30 rubles. Again a bunch of cameras, a lot of memory, a 000 mAh battery, but the processor from MediaTek is P4000.
