Instead of an introduction – about the achievements and strategy of Xiaomi
Xiaomi held a large-scale presentation of ecosystem products. Before the start of the presentation, a lot of funny videos were shown demonstrating how a smart home improves the lives of all its inhabitants. Most of all, I liked the video with the dogs, who cheated in the apartment while the hostess was not there, but managed to clean everything and even ventilate (using an air purifier and other smart equipment), and only a bunch of a home camera and a dastardly photo printer laid them down. The video is funny, but in this way Xiaomi hints that if the apartment was robbed, the camera would at least be able to capture the process.
The presentation began with the already traditional part about the coronavirus. Xiaomi shared that it does not stand aside, but actively helps by assisting 37 different countries with the provision of masks, gloves and fans. In general, a “ventilator” is understood as a device for artificial ventilation of the lungs. I wonder if Xiaomi has learned how to make such “fans” or has it just sent its smart fans? In any case, the work is useful and noble.
Xiaomi also recalled that it is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Considering all the ups and downs and the way the company was buried, this is a significant achievement. And we must admit that Xiaomi has made our life brighter, more interesting and more fun. Therefore, we wish the company many years of development and prosperity. It will be boring without Xiaomi.
Another nice thing is that for the first time in history, Xiaomi’s overseas revenue was 50% (another 50% from the home market) and the company is in the TOP 5 in the markets of 47 countries. By the way, a very useful picture. I didn’t know that Xiaomi is number 1 in Greece and number 3 in Israel. I will add a drop of tar by saying that the lion’s share of overseas 50% of revenue comes from India. Unfortunately, Xiaomi is still a company of two markets (China and India). And we need to actively work on this, and while Huawei is knocked out of the global race, we need to take over Europe.
Xiaomi shared their vision of the strategy, which is a combination of smartphones and AIoT (the Internet of Things flavored with artificial intelligence). In the center is a smartphone with which you can control smart home appliances, as well as use it for entertainment (second circle) – display images on TV, print photos, connect to a laptop. The third circle is a variety of additional gadgets, ranging from fitness bracelets to cards and scooters. The logic is that this entire ecosystem is tied to a smartphone and controlled from it.
And finally, one more interesting achievement. Xiaomi was ranked 5th in the TV shipments ranking.
Concluding this part of the presentation, the presenter shared how Xiaomi sees a smart home, demonstrating that the company’s ecosystem products are found in every room, in the kitchen, in the toilet (we are talking about both smart lights and leak sensors, and about a toilet seat with bidet function and buns warmer). If you have a question why you should use only Xiaomi products, then the explanation is simple – synergy. So, the Mi Home application allows you to customize “smart” scenarios. For example, when the smart lock is closed, the robot vacuum cleaner will start cleaning, the home camera will start recording, the washing machine will start washing, and the left light will turn off (or, conversely, will turn on if a robot vacuum cleaner that does not have a lidar enters the room).
Finally, the presenter said that today the company will show 5 new gadgets for the ecosystem. Hurrah!
Mi SmartBand 5
Before the presentation of the bracelet, Xiaomi shared the success why their Mi SmartBand is number one in the world. My version: low price and good quality. It turns out that everything is much deeper. Mi SmartBand achieves victory over other bracelets on all fronts: light weight, long battery life and protection from water, health monitoring, seamless experience and smart features. The latter, I suppose, means the integration of NFC, which allows you to pay from the wristband, and exercise recognition. But what is meant by a seamless user experience, I did not understand. By the way, Xiaomi has previously shown petal charts for fitness bracelets from other manufacturers. Can you guess who she meant by examples 1 and 2?
The first 4 generations of the Mi SmartBand were successful, let’s see what awaits the fifth generation. If I understood correctly, the main slogan of the bracelet was the phrase “Go smart, live more”. Probably, it can be translated as “use the smart, live more.” The second motto is “Personal fitness partner”.
- Screen: AMOLED 1.1 inches, 65 screen themes, 20% more than the previous generation
- Miscellaneous: 6 different straps
- Water resistance: 5 ATM, suitable for swimming, surfing, diving and showering
- Working time: up to 14 days, can be charged without removing the bracelet from the strap using magnetic charging
- Sensors: 50% more accurate heart rate sensor than the previous generation
- New Features: Stress Level Measurement, Breathing Exercise, Women’s Cycle Calendar, Smartphone Camera Remote Release, Added 5 New Exercise Type Recognition Support
The main visual differences of the new bracelet are in customization and a slightly larger screen size. The user was able to customize the desktop by choosing the widgets he needed. Also presented 6 multi-colored straps. Although it seems that finding a strap with an unusual color for the Mi Band has never been a problem.
The bracelet is not afraid of water. I liked that the speaker emphasized that the bracelet is suitable for swimming, surfing, diving and showering. In theory, this hints that the bracelet is not afraid of salt or hot water. The battery life was up to 14 days. Xiaomi immediately showed that this is more than the closest competitor Fitbit Inspire HR, which lasts up to 5 days on a single charge.
Finally, Xiaomi has figured out how to charge the bracelet without removing the capsule from the strap. A magnetic connector appeared on the reverse side. Super!
The bracelet now recognizes 5 new exercises: stationary bike, ellipse trainer, yoga, rowing machine, jump rope. The last topic interested me the most. Usually, before starting each workout, I jump 1000 times on the rope and try to keep it faster than 10 minutes. Quite frankly, counting is a tedious procedure, you even have to turn off your headphones so as not to get lost. And now the bracelet can count the jumps for me. They didn’t say anything at the presentation, but it seems that the function was not completed. We need notifications, for example, every hundred jumps or when a certain result is achieved. Well, or you have to look at the readings from the screen, jumping in a cross …
The smartphone application will also be updated, and new infographics and slices will appear. Also, the bracelet will help in tracking women’s cycles.
The price for a new bracelet starts at 39.99 euros, that is, 3 rubles at the current exchange rate. By pre-order, the bracelet can be purchased for 240 euros. Interestingly, nothing has been said about the NFC version yet.
Mi True Wireless Earphone 2 Basic
The second point of the program is new headphones. Xiaomi said they have Mi True Wireless Earbuds for sports. And these headphones have a simpler basic version. And Xiaomi also has the Mi True Wireless Earphone 2 for “power” users. And now we decided to release a basic version of the headphones for advanced users. Based on the size of the drivers, it should sound like AirPods!
Xiaomi handsome. They copied the magic of Apple! Now, when you open the headphone case, the same picture appears on the smartphone as on the iPhone! Great and brilliant! Of course, it will only work on Xiaomi smartphones. The feature will be available in Q3 this year. Another new feature: the headphones will recognize when they are removed from the ear and stop playing.
The headphones are equipped with a dual microphone system, which is responsible for noise cancellation. Now it will be as good to communicate in the headset as on the phone (provided that you have a good phone with a normal “noise reduction”).
The battery life will be 5 hours on a single charge, and using the charging case – 20 hours. A USB Type-C connector is used for charging. All that is missing is the wireless charging of the case.
Here are all the features of the new headphones on one slide.
Price – from 40 euros. Just look at how humiliated and crushed Apple and JBL are. I guess in the near future we can expect that Apple will announce its withdrawal from the watch and headphone market. Perhaps one of the employees will commit seppuku.
Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2
It turns out that Xiaomi is the number 1 in the electric scooter market! And now there is a holiday at the self-cat-sharing offices all over the world. The second generation of the world’s most popular scooter is launched.
The maximum speed is 25 km / h, the distance on a single charge is 45 kilometers. The maximum angle of entry is 20 degrees. The maximum weight of a rider is 110 kg. The scooter has been tested by a German rating agency for reliability. He has two brakes – on the front and rear wheels. By the way, you can buy a portable compressor for pumping up to the wheels. Also, the scooter is equipped with a headlight, a rear brake light, and the wheels are equipped with reflective elements. There is also a small screen on the steering wheel that displays the most important information.
Price – from 499 euros. I think that’s fair value for such a cool and reliable vehicle.
Mi Electric Scooter
If the price of the original scooter is not to your liking, then Xiaomi has presented a more affordable model. The maximum speed is also 25 km, but the scooter can only drive 30 km (and not 45, as the older model), and the ascent angle is 14 degrees. Prices start at 399 euros.
Finally, the speaker said that Xiaomi has entered into a collaboration with the Mercedes Benz Formula 1 team. There will be a special version of the older scooter. There are no details, but the AMG badge seems to hint that now the xiaomists will also be able to drive AMG.
Mi Tv Stick
An easy way to turn your ordinary TV into a smart one. I put in a stick, and that’s it! Allows you to stream 1080p content. There is a built-in Chromecast. An operating system with Netflix and other streaming services installed.
The price starts from 40 euros.
Mi Curved Gaming Monitor
A bit unexpectedly, in the end, Xiaomi introduced a whole gaming monitor. Size 34 inches, curved, aspect ratio 21 by 9. Resolution 3440 by 1440 pixels. Refresh rate – 144 Hz, maximum brightness – 300 nits. It is stated that the screen does not flicker, that is, without PWM. Color gamut – 121% sRGB. The monitor also supports AMD FreeSync Premium technology to avoid tearing in games. Price – from 399 euros.
As many as 6 interesting products were presented by Xiaomi. Everyone, one way or another, is curious, and even for many a nice price of 40 euros. By the way, the display of prices in euros hints that Xiaomi understands the importance of the European market.
It’s nice that the bracelet has a magnetic charge. A TV stick will allow the dacha stupid TV to be smart and stream movies to it. If you didn’t like that the maximum resolution of streaming content is only FullHD, then take another look at the example with the dacha. A stick is an opportunity to upgrade an old TV.
Electric scooters have become part of our lives. Just last weekend went to see a friend for his birthday. At the age of 32, they gave him an electric scooter. Recently, he traveled to work by taxi, and now he can alternate this with rides on a scooter.
Headphones are definitely of interest. I would like to see if Xiaomi has succeeded in completely adopting the magic of Apple and if everything works so easily and simply.
