Positioning
In any product line, there are both bestsellers and outsiders, models that are created for a small circle of buyers. The bestseller in the A-series lineup is the Galaxy A51, while the A41 is becoming a niche offering. Either because of the index, since the four in Asia is perceived as something bad, or because of the fact that it happened historically, but it was the 40th line that was never popular.
The main market trend is the growth of the screen diagonal, this trend has been present for more than ten years. In 4x models, the approach is exactly the opposite, they are created compact against the background of other A-series devices. And this imposes certain restrictions, since the Galaxy A31 is larger in size, it has a correspondingly larger built-in battery, but the filling is exactly the same. The compactness can be called conditional, since it is such against the background of other models of the A-series, but far from absolute, more on that below.
They choose the Galaxy A41 not for the characteristics, the typical scenario looks much simpler, the buyer looks at different smartphones on the shelf and sees that the Galaxy A41 is more compact than the devices around him. This is exactly a comparison against the background of other models, but it is impossible to call the device the most compact one. Therefore, it is a niche model that can never become very visible in sales. But no one planned this, the very positioning denies the possibility of being massive. Let’s take a look at the device and evaluate its compactness.
Design, dimensions, controls
This device is compact against the background of its A-series counterparts, look how it looks against the background of the A31 / A51 (159.3 x 73.1 x 8,6 mm, 185 grams).
Compared to Galaxy M31
The size of A41 is 149.9 x 69.8 x 7,9 mm, weight is 152 grams. It is thin, due to the rounded back panel, fits well in the hand. And the width obviously makes the ergonomics more interesting, the model is different in size. But this is not a very compact device, for example, the A40 sold last year has dimensions – 144.4×69.2×7.9 mm, weight 140 grams. The fact that the width is smaller makes the perception of the A40 completely different, but its diagonal is 5.9 inches, the difference is not so critical. Again, the A41 is compact compared to other 2020 A-series models.
All modern devices can be easily confused, they have the same faces and a slightly different backdrop. In the A41, as well as in the A51, they decided to use a geometric pattern to make the back panel easily recognizable. The difference is minimal, the “prism” stripes go the other way, but who will see it? Outwardly, these are similar models, it is easy to confuse them and it is impossible to recognize where and which device.
So far, there are exactly three color solutions in Russia – black, white and red. In other markets, these may be different solutions.
The material used in the A41 is Glasstic (a combination of the words Glass and Plastic). This is plastic covered with a glossy protective layer, which creates the effect of a mirror, in the sun and at different angles the body starts to play, it always looks a little different. The glass does not cover the back panel, it is only used on the screen.
The fingerprint sensor is built into the screen, it responds to pressing even when the screen is off, but this is a specific area. This is not a flagship and it is impossible to wait for the maximum speed of the sensor. The sensor response speed is about a second or less. For its price segment, this is an excellent result in which there are no flaws. On the other hand, it is this moment that for many becomes the subject of criticism of the A-series, the sensors are slow compared to Chinese smartphones.
For the rest, there is face unlock and it works great. It is important to note here that both accelerated and conventional recognition are used, the second cannot be deceived with a photo or video. For Samsung Pay, only a fingerprint is used as authorization, so there are no problems either.
On the right side there is a paired volume key and an on / off button. On the opposite side, you can see a slot for two nanoSIM cards and a microSD memory card. The slot is not combined, so you are not limited by anything.
At the bottom there is a speaker output, right there is the main microphone (the second one on the top), as well as a 3.5 mm jack. The single speaker at the bottom sounds good, but not as loud as if there were two. Anyway, there are no complaints about it, you can hear it well in different conditions.
The presence of two microphones and a noise canceling system in a street, club and other loud places is simply irreplaceable, the device does its job well here.
The bottom line is the excellent build quality, pleasant material and the fact that the model looks more expensive than it really is. I would like to have protection against water, but it is not in the device, just as it is absent from most direct competitors. Also, for obvious reasons, there is no front LED, there was simply no room for it.
Display
The technical characteristics of the screen are as follows – 6.1 inches, 1080×2400 pixels (20: 9), SuperAMOLED, 431 ppi, automatic brightness control, AlwaysOn Display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3. In the A51, the camera is built into the screen; A31. This is a simple version of the screen, in the A51 it is more complicated. But other display capabilities are at the same level.
A feature unavailable to competitors in this price segment is the AlwaysOn Display, which is the ability to see a clock or screensaver on the screen, notification icons and quickly switch to applications.
The screen settings are typical, you can change the color settings.
The screen remains readable in the sun, the brightness is sufficient for any work.
Battery
The smartphone has a built-in 3500 mAh Li-Ion battery, it supports fast charging, and it comes with a 15 Watt charger. There’s no wireless charging, but that’s okay for this segment.
The officially declared battery performance parameters coincide with what we received in the tests:
- Video playback time at maximum brightness – up to 17 hours;
- Audio playback – up to 80 hours;
- Internet browsing via Wi-Fi – up to 14 hours, LTE – up to 15 hours;
- Talk time in 4G – up to 25 hours.
In everyday life, this device works for about a day and a half with automatic adjustment of the backlight brightness (the algorithm adjusts to you, and it is not aggressive at all, the brightness is always comfortable). In this case, the operating time of the screen is about 5.5-6 hours. In the same A31, where the battery is 5000 mAh and the same chipset, the operating time is up to two days, the screen time is up to 8 hours.
The full charging time of the battery is approximately 65 minutes.
Memory, chipset, performance
Samsung used the MediaTek Helio P65 MT6768 chipset (12 nm technology), it has two Cortex A75 cores with a frequency of up to 2 GHz, 6 Cortex A55 cores with a frequency of up to 1.7 GHz, graphics Mali G52 MC2. The performance of this solution is noticeably lower than that of the Exynos 9611 chipset, which is used in the Galaxy A51 – there are better graphics, better individual cores and they have a higher frequency, as well as a 10 nm process technology.
The type of internal memory is eMMC, it is not the fastest, but look at the benchmark results.

Communication capabilities
The Galaxy A41 has dual-band Wi-Fi, which is already a big plus, and supports VHT80, which provides good data transfer speeds. Unlike older models, ANT + is not supported. But the set of frequencies for LTE is noticeably lower than that of the same A51.
Bluetooth 5.0 version, NFC (Samsung Pay / Google Pay) is present, everything works just fine.
From the point of view of navigation, everything is also very good (GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / Beidou), a cold start on city streets takes 2-3 seconds, the navigation accuracy is excellent, no complaints.
Camera
The camera interface is familiar to other Samsung models, there are no discoveries here. There is a Pro mode, AR Emoji and other effects, including AI algorithms for enhancing pictures.
Front camera 25 MP (f / 2.2), bokeh effect, various additional effects, no autofocus. Look at an example of a picture, everything is familiar here and at the level of other models.
The main camera module consists of three lenses – there is no zoom, but there is a wide-angle camera.
Let’s look at examples of photos and videos, they are incomparable with flagships, but in their price segment everything is not bad, this is a typical quality for models of this level.

Software – features
The model is originally based on Android 10 and OneUI 2.0, that is, this is the latest version of the interface, which in the literal sense can be called one of the best in terms of flexibility of settings and capabilities, as well as other points.
A few words about the multimedia capabilities of the device. It has a built-in radio with the ability to record programs. The headphones act as an antenna.
Standard applications are represented by a calculator, file manager, voice recorder and other applications that are necessary for comfortable work out of the box.
Unlike the A51, there are no Bixby scripts here, this is clearly a marketing division into senior and junior models. The function is cool and the fact that it is software and removed from the junior device looks strange. At least strange.
Impressions
The choice of the Galaxy A41 is due to the fact that you want a more compact device than the same Galaxy A51 and this is the main reason why you need to pay attention to this model. If the relative compactness is not so important for you, then you should choose the Galaxy A51, it has a better radio part, a larger battery, a better set of cameras and a better photo / video quality. The price is not so different.
At the moment, Galaxy A41 can be found from 17 to 19 thousand rubles, and these are federal networks. Such a noticeable range of prices speaks of the niche nature of the model, someone knows how to sell such devices, someone does not, and therefore the price is noticeably lower (as an option, they bought more).
In principle, there is nothing to scold the device for, for its audience it is quite good. Another thing is that this audience is small, the majority chooses the same A51 as the best price / quality ratio. In the A-series line, you should pay attention to this device.
Alternatively, you can take a copy of the A41 with a large screen, it will be the A31. Among Chinese smartphones, there are many models in this segment, there is already a question of which brands you like and who you trust.
