Big presentation of Huawei
Huawei Mate 40
On Thursday, the Chinese company Huawei held its big presentation, at which it presented new smartphones of the Mate 40 series and a scattering of various accessories. This line is opened by flagship smartphones Huawei Mate 40, Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Huawei Mate 40 Pro +, as well as Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS, which received 5nm 5G Kirin 9000 processors, an Ultra Vision Cine Camera system and Space Ring Design. inspired by the theme of space.
It is noted that the Huawei Mate 40 series smartphone camera system was developed in cooperation with Leica and received a number of significant improvements, including an ultra wide-angle lens, a high-resolution main camera, an improved telephoto lens and much more. Of the interesting features, it is worth noting the wide-angle camera, which, according to the company, takes pictures without distorting the image, and this option works for the main and front camera modules.
By the way, the layout of the main camera modules in Huawei Mate 40 is somewhat reminiscent of that in the Nokia 8.3 smartphone, for which we published a detailed review this week:
The screens of Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Huawei Mate 40 Pro + with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a touch panel with a sampling rate of 240 Hz have a reduced notch, which, in addition to a wide-angle front camera, houses a gesture sensor and a sensor for unlocking a smartphone with 3D Face Unlock. The only thing that looks strange is that the company did not make the image refresh rate of 120 Hz, like the competitors, but left it at 90 Hz, and, of course, the “waterfall” display is already unfashionable, other brands are again switching to flat screens.
We’ve released material here about the race of manufacturers in the refresh rate of the display in smartphones, read:
The manufacturer of these new products focuses on the new Kirin 9000 processor, made using a 5-nanometer process technology and having more than 15.3 billion transistors and support for 5G communication. It is built on a heterogeneous three-tier architecture with cores clocked at up to 3.13 GHz. It integrates a 24-core Mali-G78 GPU as well as an NPU with two large cores and one small core. Today this is the last Kirin processor, in the future, due to sanctions from the United States, the Chinese manufacturer will have to look for workarounds, and if it works out, then install other people’s processors in their devices.
Smartphones have installed two speakers, so now they can provide stereo sound. And also the Huawei Mate 40 series supports the fastest version of Huawei SuperCharge with 66W. Interestingly, while Xiaomi introduced 65W fast charging, Huawei decided to beat the competition a little and showed 66W charging.
The presented smartphones work under the proprietary operating system EMUI 11, built on the basis of the Android OS with its own services Huawei Mobile Services. Of course, it is sad that Google does not defend the rights of its longtime partner with the US government. Can you imagine how much fun the market would be if Huawei smartphones were not deprived of Google services?
The Huawei Mate 40 series smartphones will be available in select markets at the following prices:
- Huawei Mate 40 (8 GB + 128 GB): 899 €
- Huawei Mate 40 Pro (8 GB + 256 GB): 1199 €
- Huawei Mate 40 Pro + (12 GB + 256 GB): 1399 €
The prices, to be honest, are immodest for devices without Google services. Yes, there is life in the Huawei system, the number of applications with HMS support is constantly growing, but still some programs are missing, and with a high degree of probability they will not appear officially on Huawei devices while the sanctions against the company are in effect.
We have already released our first look at the Huawei Mate 40 Pro smartphone, this is the only model of the new line that will be officially sold in Russia:
And in the subject, I recommend our material about the AppGallery app store from Huawei:
As some comparison of flagships from different companies, I suggest you read the full review of the Samsung Galaxy Note20 smartphone:
Huawei FreeBuds Studio
Huawei also unveiled its first full-size wireless earbuds. The model was named Huawei FreeBuds Studio. The headphones provide studio-quality reproduction over a frequency range of 4 Hz to 48 kHz. The ear cushions are made of soft artificial leather. A dynamic 40 mm speaker with a four-layer diaphragm made of composite materials is used for sound reproduction. The headphones are equipped with an intelligent dynamic noise reduction system, built using 8 microphones, 4 on each of the earcups, which reduces the level of external noise by 40 dB. The earbuds are capable of connecting to two devices at the same time and use Bluetooth 5.2 for communication. The 410 mAh battery provides continuous operation of the headphones using the noise canceling system for 20 hours and 24 hours with the noise canceling off. Playback is controlled by touch switches on the right earcup. The novelty will go on sale in November at a suggested price of € 299 in two colors: black and gold.
The headphones are, of course, interesting, and here no sanctions and restrictions can affect demand. While Apple’s full-size headphones exist only as rumors, Huawei has quickly decided to take this niche with its product. And, again, if you believe the information on the network, the product of the “apple” company should be called AirPods Studio, and then the Chinese rolled out FreeBuds Studio, which, of course, is no coincidence.
Huawei Eyewear II
In addition, during the presentation, the new generation Huawei × GENTLE MONSTER Eyewear II smart glasses were announced, combining, according to the manufacturer, advanced technologies with the design of the premium brand of sunglasses GENTLE MONSTER, offering users the latest innovations in the field of audio, ergonomics and artificial intelligence.
The Eyewear II collection, in addition to the signature GENTLE MONSTER design, offers a wide selection of both vision correction glasses and sunglasses developed using Huawei technologies, including privacy features. The ultra-thin semi-open wide-range speaker provides stereo sound in any environment, and the Smart Interaction function turns the glasses into a personal assistant that offers quick access to various information and intuitive interaction.
Huawei Eyewear II supports a new intuitive gesture control system. To pair with a mobile device, lightly touch the left hook. The voice assistant is activated by double tap on the left arm. In addition, the glasses support swipes – to switch to the next or previous song or adjust the volume, the user just needs to slide his finger along the arms without having to take out the smartphone.
Eyewear II glasses rechargeable batteries allow them to work without recharging in music playback mode for up to 5 hours. At the same time, the new wireless and contactless fast charging technology allows you to quickly recharge your glasses at any time. The Huawei × GENTLE MONSTER Eyewear II will officially go on sale this month starting at € 299.
Glasses are a slightly specific product and will not be particularly in demand on the market, you can look at a similar gadget from Bose, which is already on sale, including in Russia. Probably the biggest drawback of this kind of device is the small choice of frame design, which may not be suitable for many.
Here’s our review of Bose glasses, by the way:
Another new device is the Huawei Sound wireless speaker, which Huawei has developed in cooperation with the largest speaker manufacturer Devialet.
The latest generation devices feature a four-speaker acoustic design: a 4-inch 40W woofer and three 5W full-range speakers. Despite its small size, Huawei Sound is powerful thanks to Devialet’s Push-Push configuration, in which two passive radiators amplify each other, preventing reverse vibrations. This reduces distortion caused by membrane reverberation and ensures stability even at high volume levels (up to 90 dB).
Thanks to SPACE technology, three multi-directional speakers receive the signal depending on the listening position. In addition, Huawei Sound has four sound effect modes: Devialet SPACETM “Scene” (Soundstage), “Vocals” (Vocals), Hi-Fi and “Bass” (Bass). These modes are customizable through the Huawei AI Life app.
Huawei Sound has a built-in function for transferring audio files by touching the smartphone screen, thanks to which the user can transfer music from the smartphone to the speaker by touching a button on the smartphone screen. The column also supports LDAC technology. Huawei Sound will be officially available in select regions for € 199.
The product is interesting, although there is a lot of competition in this sector, but the question is whether the device will be released on our market, since the company’s previous column never officially arrived in Russia.
Among other things, Huawei showed a scattering of various accessories, here and cases for the Mate 40 with ring light, and 66W car charger, and an external battery, and a docking station with fast wireless charging. The company also announced its continued cooperation with Porsche Design and showed the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS smartphone and the Huawei Watch GT2 Porsche Design smartwatch, but the devices are very expensive and very niche, I do not think that in this situation they will be in demand outside China.
And also this week we released an interesting article about the independent upgrade of smartwatches from Huawei:
IPhone 12 sales start
Sales of new smartphones Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro started in Russia. And in the online store and retail stores “Beeline” there is a special offer when purchasing new devices from Apple – 5 and 000 rubles for communication as a gift when buying an iPhone 10 or iPhone 000 Pro. The kit, in addition to a smartphone, includes a choice of one of the tariffs of the popular line “Close people 12” and higher with large packages of minutes and Internet.
For example, the promotional package for the iPhone 12 includes the option “5 rubles for communication through the promotion” for 000 months, and for the iPhone 6 Pro – the option “12 rubles for communication through the promotion” for a year. The total cost of each kit is equal to the cost of a smartphone. You can also connect to the action with a new iPhone through the Beeline eSIM.
You can also buy new items in installments and under the trade-in program, exchanging your old device for the latest flagship.
Prices for the iPhone 12 mini start at 69 rubles, the iPhone 990 is 12 more expensive – 10 rubles, the cost of the iPhone 000 Pro starts at 79 rubles, and the iPhone 990 Pro Max will cost from 12 rubles.
Yes, here “Beeline” also rolled out an interesting tariff, we talked about it separately:
New DJI camera
DJI has unveiled the DJI Pocket 2, a portable gimbal camera aimed at video bloggers. The model is a small handle topped with a camera, which is mounted on a three-axis gimbal. The camera received an enlarged image sensor 1 / 1.7 inches. The 20mm f / 1.8 lens has a wider angle of view than its predecessor, Osmo Pocket. The camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. The manufacturer also promises that HDR video recording will be available later. The new camera has radically improved audio recording, which uses 4 microphones. This allows the recording sound to be adjusted according to the direction of the camera. The camera can also compress the sound field when scaling the image. At the bottom of the camera, using a modular design, you can use compatible accessories, for example, a Wi-Fi module, a 3.5 mm jack or a wireless microphone receiver. The DJI Pocket 2 can be used as a stand-alone stabilized camera, or it can be connected to a smartphone and controlled via a wireless connection or physical connector. You can use the DJI Mimo app on a connected smartphone to edit and transfer photos.
The DJI Pocket 2 camera should go on sale in November, in Russia its price will be 35 rubles, and for 990 rubles you can purchase an extended kit with a tripod, wireless microphone and other accessories.
Sony PlayStation 5 as an entertainment hub
The new PlayStation 5 console can be used not only for games, with its help it will also be possible to launch video and music streaming services. On November 12, the PS5 will support the launch of Apple TV, Disney Plus, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch and YouTube entertainment streaming services. Amazon Prime Video and Hulu are due out later. As an additional accessory to the PS5, users will be offered a remote control with buttons located on it, which can directly launch streaming services. The remote control will not be included in the basic package, it will need to be purchased separately for $ 29.99. The remote will also go on sale on November 12th. Thus, Sony is showing its potential buyers that its new game console is not only a system for video games, but also a new entertainment center in their home.
The decision is quite logical, but the question is, if a user has a SmartTV and various set-top boxes, how many users will use the PlayStation 5 as the main entertainment center for all scenarios, not just games? It seems to me that this is still more of a marketing ploy of the company to attract the attention of console users: here, they say, we have not only games, but also access directly from the console to all your favorite video services.
Yes, you should prepare for the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S in advance, for example, adding a good soundbar to your TV like this:
New iPhone 12 in detail
The day before the official start of sales of the new iPhone 12, detailed information on their characteristics appeared on the network. Despite the fact that Apple for some reason hides this information, users still got to the bottom of the truth and revealed some details of new devices. So, the capacity of the batteries and the amount of RAM in the “apple” devices became known:
- iPhone 12 mini – 2227mAh, 4GB RAM
- iPhone 12 – 2851 mAh (iPhone 11 – 3110 mAh), RAM 4 GB;
- iPhone 12 Pro – 2815mAh (iPhone 11 Pro – 3046mAh), 6GB RAM
- iPhone 12 Pro Max – 3687mAh (iPhone 11 Pro Max – 3969mAh), 6GB RAM.
And also it became known that smartphones use the Qualcomm X5 55G modem, and not the latest X60.
From small incidents, it is worth saying that some users complained on the network that they received branded covers for the new Apple iPhone 12 without cutouts for the speaker and microphone. It is clear that this is a marriage in production, but, as they say, this was not the case under Jobs.
And Vladimir Nimin this week shared his thoughts on the presentation of the new iPhones:
Carmaker General Motors has officially unveiled a new electric pickup, Hummer. The production of the car will be established in Detroit at the Factory Zero plant, in which GM is investing $ 2.2 billion to convert it for the production of electric vehicles. The model will go on sale in the fall of 2021 at a suggested price of $ 112. The electric pickup will be equipped with three electric motors with a total capacity of 1000 horsepower and, according to the manufacturer, will have a range of up to 560 km on a single charge. The car will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in less than three seconds. Later, in 2022, a less powerful version with engines with a total of 800 horsepower and a shorter range of 480 km will appear, its cost will be just under $ 100 thousand. The new electric car is equipped with air suspension, which allows to increase the ground clearance by 15 cm, and also has a unique ability to move sideways by turning all the wheels in one direction. This driving mode is called “Crab Mode”. To charge the battery, a special 300 kW charging station can be used, thanks to which a full charge will occur in 40 minutes. The new Hummer will use Epic Games’ Unreal Engine for the first time in the industry to create a multimedia platform. The new Hummer will compete for buyers with Tesla’s Cybertruck.
Of course, the car is interesting, and, according to GM, they sold out the first version of Edition One by pre-order in just a few hours, however, how many cars were available are not reported. The price of $ 112 is rather big, but here it is worth considering that the top version of the SUV will receive three electric motors with a total capacity of 000 hp, adaptive air suspension, CrabWalk mode, in which the car can go diagonally, 1014 cameras for all-round view and an advanced media system with an interface on the Unreal Engine with a main 18-inch screen.
In Russia, not many models of electric vehicles are officially sold, for example, the Jaguar I-Pace, which we wrote about, and the Audi e-tron, which will be on our test in about two weeks, and you can already ask questions about it so that we subsequently were able to answer them.
Hyundai future mobility
Hyundai MotorStudio in Moscow has opened the Hyundai Future Mobility exposition dedicated to Hyundai solutions in the field of individual and collective mobility. The exhibits reflect the vision of future mobility and the global strategy of the Hyundai brand, centered on the person himself and his role in various spheres of life.
