Positioning

In the last review of the device from the seventh series of realme, I suggested that with the release of the update of the numbering series of its smartphones, the manufacturer decided to experiment with positioning the devices, leaving the younger model with a 90 Hz display and a more capacious battery. And if in the case of the 7 Pro the key features are on the surface, then in the case of the realme 7 everything is not so obvious, because technically the smartphone is only a minor update of its predecessors.

It is also worth understanding that the versions of the device for the global and Asian markets differ, and not in our favor: the main camera module with a resolution of 64 megapixels in the global version gave way to a colleague of 48 megapixels. In Asian models, depending on the market, the availability of the NFC module varies, in Russia the module is present.

Design, dimensions, controls

The smartphone is available in two color versions – “mirror blue” and “mirror silver”. As you already understood, the second version was on the test. The color scheme of both versions is calm, there is no obvious division into models “for him” and “for her”. Live color of the back is perceived as pearlescent, visually it is divided into two panels, the design echoes that of the older model, plastic is also used here. The difference in the processing of materials gives a nice play at different angles, the matte structure, as far as possible, hides fingerprints.

As for the assembly, there is traditionally nothing to complain about, it is very cool that manufacturers are closely monitoring this parameter. It will seem to someone that this is all the way it should be, but I remember perfectly the creaking and permeable plastic covers, the impression, frankly speaking, is so-so. Protection of the case from external influences was not delivered this time. As for the elements of the rear panel, it is worth noting the camera unit: its elongated rectangular platform protrudes above the body, but it does not feel like it was in the same realme 6, the unit has become a little thinner, the flash moved a little lower. On the table, realme 7 is not completely flat, when you click on the lower right and upper left corners of the screen, the smartphone sways a little. At the same time, text input is successful, but you need to get used to it.

In terms of connectors and controls, absolute parity with realme 6 and realme 6S: on the right – a fingerprint scanner, on the left – two separate volume keys and a tray for two SIM cards with a dedicated memory card slot. There are two unlocking modes for the fingerprint sensor: by touching the button or by pressing it, the second option excludes accidental triggering.

The connector for wired headphones has been preserved, it is at the bottom end, the location has not changed. The hero of the review weighs 5 grams more and 0.5 mm thicker than realme 6, otherwise the models have almost complete parity, except that the tactile sensations are more pleasant in realme 7, its predecessor was more slippery in the hand. According to the design of the smartphone itself, it would be nice to add a bright element, for example, the red gradient of the realme 6 Pro is well remembered, certainly not to be confused with anything.

Display

Here they decided not to experiment and put the matrix already familiar from the last generation: an IPS display with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, the front camera looks out from a small round cutout in the upper left corner of the display. It cannot be hidden by software, I think that only the lazy has not heard about specialized wallpapers. The best effect from them will be available if you remove the factory film from the screen. Fans of live wallpapers will not be left out either, by default the software provides 14 different options.

The display brightness is declared at 480 nits, in his review of realme 6 Vladimir Nimin confirmed this level during the measurement. The minimum level is great for reading or viewing content in the dark, the eyes are less tired. The same purpose is also served by a special mode that protects the eyes and reduces their fatigue by filtering blue light. Color temperature can be adjusted for both this mode and the default display settings.

And, of course, let’s not pass by the increased refresh rate. Silently, this parameter is gradually approaching the budget segment up to 10 rubles, at the moment the Oppo A000 (53 rubles) is the closest. There is a possibility that the psychological mark will be overcome as early as next year, of course, it is not a fact that it will be FHD + resolution on the fly. In the display settings, you can also choose either automatic switching of the refresh rate or the standard 12 Hz mode. Nice display without any breakthrough chips, and if you don’t like AMOLED, then you can safely choose this option.

Battery

The battery capacity increased to 5000 mAh, not to say that in fact this increase gave fantastic numbers, but still some algorithms work: the cyclic video test showed a good result – exactly 24 hours, (airplane mode, 50% brightness, sound off) … In normal mode, it is easy to squeeze out two days of work from the smartphone, especially if you turn off 90 Hz, it is more difficult with the parameter turned on.

The power of the complete charging has not changed, it is 30 W, the standard for fast charging Dart Charge. A full charge will take 65 minutes, while a 50% charge will take 26 minutes. It is far from the performance of the older model, but, as they say, not the worst option. If you wish, you can charge other gadgets from your smartphone, and, as the test with three smartphones showed, it is possible without an OTG adapter.

Memory, chipset, performance

And again we have to remember the device from the sixth series. Despite the seemingly slightly overclocked processor, realme 7 in terms of performance indicators with a minimum error is absolutely at the same level, if, of course, we consider the 8/128 GB versions. Let’s not go into thoughts, comprehension of conspiracy theories inside MediaTek, in fact, Helio G90T and G95 processors are very similar to each other, the differences are a slightly higher frequency in the G95 and its later time to market.

Benchmark indicators are in some places superior to those of the realme 7 Pro. This indicates that it will be possible to play any game absolutely adequately on a smartphone. PUBG at high settings for almost all twenty minutes of the game session produces the maximum for the processor 30 frames per second. The body of the smartphone heats up slightly, of course, without any unpleasant sensations.

The volume and characteristics of the RAM and permanent memory in the test device personally seem to me a kind of standard, from which it is now worth starting from when choosing a smartphone. In my opinion, the 8/128 GB configuration will remove questions about possible problems with the background work of applications, their crashes and errors. Of course, the memory speed is also important, it is not easy to fall below LPDDR4x / UFS 2.0, and the difference in speed will be noticeable. Again, I’m starting from my scripts, for someone 6 or even 4 GB of RAM is definitely enough.

Communication capabilities

Realme 7 has one speaker, which slightly spoils its gaming characteristics, after all, stereo in games is perceived more pleasantly. So if you play dynamic shooters, it is better to use headphones, since the connector is preserved. There is an NFC module that works stably for pairing devices and contactless payment, the GPS connection speed is not a record within its price segment, the connection is reliable, and failures are extremely rare.

Камеры

As I mentioned in the section on positioning, the main module has a resolution of 48 megapixels. I have come across many opinions on the Internet about the injustice towards the global market, which was deprived of the 64 megapixel camera in the base model. It is possible to understand such users, from Chinese manufacturers they, by default, expect the maximum “stuffing” for the minimum money. On the other hand, this is a matter of priority, the Asian market is of paramount importance. Plus, the cost and differentiation with the older model also played a role, an important “chip” was needed that could justify the jump in prices.

The main module “ultra-wide” 8 megapixels and two modules of 2 megapixels, a depth sensor and a macro camera help. Subjectively, it would be more interesting to put a telephoto lens here, albeit with the same resolution, but it would look more curious and somehow distinguish the smartphone against the background of realme 6. And so, we have, plus or minus, the same photo opportunities: decent daytime shots as on the main camera and the selfie camera, slightly more “noisy” night shots. Interestingly, the frames on the front camera have a resolution of 4 megapixels by default, which suggests a Quad Bayer and this lens. In the camera application, already familiar from past devices realme and Oppo, there are many video modes available, several new photo filters.

Software

The device runs on Android 10, the graphical interface is still the same, this is realme UI 1.0. All the nice features are in place: brevity, no ads, regular call and screen recording, live wallpapers. There are few preinstalled applications, among them Yandex, WPS Office, Facebook and YouTube Music. They are deleted instantly and without problems.

This month, beta testing of a new version of the shell for realme 7 is expected. By the way, now to track updates for realme devices, the company’s specialists have implemented a special Telegram tracker, an excellent solution for those who are so impatient to get a new update and who like to overwhelm social networks and forums with questions like “where is Android 18 on my HTC Magic”.

Competitors

At the time of this writing, the average cost of realme 7 has decreased, with a recommended price of 20 there are options for 990 rubles, and these are not “gray” stores, but large chains. Let’s look around among colleagues and competitors in the market. The obvious rival can be called the same realme 19, for 990 rubles you can get identical hardware, except that the main camera will have a resolution of 6 megapixels, and the battery capacity will be slightly less.

If you go slightly beyond 20 rubles, then you can add realme 000 Pro here. Its advantages include a more versatile set of cameras, a dual front lens and a striking design, a battery like in realme 6. But then it is a little more difficult: if you focus on the high frequency of the display, sacrifice two gigabytes of RAM and halve the constant, then it is quite possible to consider POCO X6 NFC. There is a 3Hz screen, a slightly more capacious battery and very good cameras in a bright design, especially if you take the blue color. All this splendor costs an average of 120 rubles.

If you omit the limit of 8 GB and 90 Hz, then there will be a lot of options, the question is whether there will actually be a decent device. I would single out the Samsung Galaxy A51 as one of the bestsellers with decent cameras and Super AMOLED, as well as the Samsung Galaxy M31 for those looking for an even more powerful battery. Both smartphones fit into 19 rubles, except that the A990 has a 51/6 configuration, and the M64 has a 31/6 configuration.

Impressions, results

To be honest, in this case the conclusion is more unambiguous when compared with the older model. Realme 7 brings together the best of the last generation: a good screen, 90 Hz, confident gaming performance, a fast fingerprint scanner. Changes include increased battery capacity and reduced resolution of the main camera module. At the same time, the design has become calmer, and in general the device does not stand out too brightly, the same applies to positioning. In fact, it turned out to be a minor update, something was added, something was removed. Looking back at the market situation, we can say that the step with the camera is justified from the standpoint of the manufacturer, but users may be upset because of such preferences for the Asian market. On the other hand, with a 64-megapixel camera, the price would have been over 20 rubles.

The smartphone is pleasant to use, there is no feeling of any compromises in the scenarios, everything is in place and works without problems. Apart from thinking about positioning and market position, realme 7 is quite suitable for the role of the main device: you can play and take pictures beautifully, ergonomics are at the level, as well as autonomy. Yes, it is difficult for him to stand out in some way, but maybe this is the golden ratio according to realme? Let’s look at the next generation.
