ASUS has unveiled the AMD B550-based ProArt B550 Creator motherboard for digital content creators. A feature of the novelty is the presence of two Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) interfaces with support for DisplayPort 1.2 and DisplayPort 1.4 modes. The phenomenon is quite rare, since the connector is developed by Intel, and it, as you know, very rarely cooperates with competitors.
Intel announced Thunderbolt 4 at the CES 2020 electronics show, and only prepared the final specifications for the new interface by July of that year. By the way, AMD B550 chipset was announced a month later. Thunderbolt 4 is a proprietary Intel technology that debuted in new laptops based on Intel Tiger Lake-U processors late last year. The technology expands the functionality of the USB Type-C connector. For example, Thunderbolt 4 can be used to quickly charge external devices, in DisplayPort mode, and to connect external graphics cards.
The ASUS ProArt B550 Creator motherboard is based on a 14-phase 12 + 2 power supply system. The novelty is designed to work with processors of the AMD Ryzen 5000, Ryzen 4000G and Ryzen 3000 series. Supports installation of up to 128 GB of RAM. In the case of using Ryzen 4000G processors, the board can work with memory up to DDR4-5100 through XMP profiles. In the case of Ryzen 5000 and Ryzen 3000 processors, memory support is offered up to DDR4-4866.
The ProArt B550 Creator also includes two 2,5 Gigabit network adapters and a Realtek ALC1220 sound chip. It is curious that the new ProArt B550 Creator has received new convenient Q-Latch screwless mounts for M.2 SSDs, which ASUS unveiled at the beginning of last month.
The company has priced the ProArt B550 Creator motherboard at $ 299.
