Verified insider AestheticGamer (aka Dusk Golem) in his microblog reported that Capcom took over the ninth number part of Resident Evil a few years before the eighth was released.
It is known for sure that Capcom is now preparing for the release of Resident Evil Village. According to rumors, the publisher is also working on Resident Evil Revelations 3 (aka Resident Evil Outrage) and a remake of Resident Evil 4.
However, three Resident Evil in development is not a record for Capcom. According to an insider, at the end of 2018, the company was engaged in six games at once: the three already mentioned, two remakes (Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3) and Resident Evil 9.
Wait until you find out that there was a period of time that RE: 2, RE: 3, RE8, Outrage, RE: 4 & RE9 were all in development at the exact same time (late 2018). https://t.co/UMzFRSK7mt

Despite the fact that more than two years have passed since then, the insider urges not to count on the imminent release of the conditional Resident Evil 9: “Yes, you shouldn’t wait for it in the near future. I can’t even imagine that it will be released before 2024 “.
The statement of AestheticGamer is confirmed by the release schedule of Capcom games, which got on the Web thanks to hackers: Resident Evil 9 is not there, and the most distant release is a certain Resident Evil Hank (from January to March 2025).
It makes no sense now, according to the informant, to discuss possible features of the game: it is so far from being released that it may still undergo a reboot (there have already been such cases in the history of the series).
Contrary to a recent misunderstanding with Edge magazine, the release of Resident Evil Village is still expected on May 7 this year on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S.
