Chinese tech giant Huawei, which continues to struggle with tough US sanctions, has managed to remain the leader in the global telecommunications equipment market. At least, this follows from the recently published report of the analytical company Dell’Oro Group on the state of the global telecommunications infrastructure market in the IV quarter of 2020.
While Huawei remained the market leader, its total volume grew by 7 percent year on year. The telecommunications equipment market includes products for broadband, microwave and optical transmission, mobile base stations, wireless access networks, SP routers and carrier-grade switches.
The report presents the seven largest vendors in this segment, including Huawei, Nokia, Ericsson, ZTE, Cisco, Ciena and Samsung. They account for 80–85% of the total market. Interestingly, during 2020 Huawei not only did not lose ground, but also increased its market share by 2-3 percentage points.
On the other hand, Ericsson and Nokia have increased their presence in markets outside of China due to the demand for 5G equipment. Either way, in 2020 Huawei had a whopping 31% of the market in terms of revenue, followed by Nokia and Ericsson with both 15% each. ZTE, Cisco and Ciena ranked fourth, fifth and sixth with market shares of 10%, 6% and 3%, respectively. South Korean giant Samsung ranked seventh with a 2% share.
