Epic Games has announced its takeover of Capturing Reality, the advanced 3D scanning and photogrammetry software RealityCapture. It is worth saying that RealityCapture is able to reconstruct scenes of any size and complexity based on photographs or laser scanning, while providing accuracy and high speed due to graphic acceleration.
From now on, the Capturing Reality team will continue to grow and develop in close cooperation with the developers of the Unreal Engine. As a result, Epic Games promises that photogrammetric reconstruction technology will become much more affordable. Starting today, Capturing Reality has reduced the cost of its offerings for all new and existing customers. For $ 10, you can get 3500 PPI points (this will process approximately 700 images of 20 megapixels each). An unlimited license is still expensive at $ 3750.
Epic reportedly plans to integrate Capturing Reality’s powerful photogrammetry software technologies into the Unreal Engine ecosystem, making it even easier for developers to upload images and create photorealistic 3D models and scenes for games and other projects.
Capturing Reality will continue to maintain and develop relationships with existing partners in industries such as games, visual effects, film, surveying, architecture, engineering, construction and heritage conservation. This also includes companies and organizations that do not use the Unreal Engine in their work.
