During the experiment, volunteers were asked to dream about something pleasant, while doing nothing. Scientists thought it would create positive emotions in people, but in the end, the participants experienced negative feelings.
People didn’t know what to think about. “Simple” thoughts — for example, about ice cream — seemed empty to them. And “difficult” – caused stress. Besides, having to do nothing caused boredom. Some even preferred to escape their thoughts by any means.
After that, scientists conducted another experiment. They gave the volunteers a list of things to think about. Then people began to dream more willingly.
The researchers also gave tips on how to learn to dream. They recommend that you formulate a few topics in advance that will be enjoyable to think about. You should also choose the right time for this – for example, in the shower or for a walk.
