Together with the published information about the new iMac on an ARM chip, which was found in the macOS Big Sur 11.3 Beta 5 code, in the fifth beta version of iOS 14.5, a mention of the new Apple A14X mobile chip was found. It should form the basis of the next generation of iPad Pro tablets. Notably, this improved chip will have a lot in common with the desktop Apple M1.
The specialists of the 9to5Mac portal parsed the source code of the iOS update and found references to the GPU with the code name 13G. Since it hasn’t been seen in any product yet, this means that 13G will be part of a new chip, most likely the A14X. It will be an improved version of the A14 Bionic system used in the latest generation iPhone.
Also 9to5Mac discovered that the chip will be based on the T8103 platform, which runs the Apple M1, created for desktop computers. This is confirmed by information from a Bloomberg report, which said that the new iPad Pro will be as close as possible in performance to the new MacBook. The codenames of the upcoming tablets have also been revealed: J517, J518, J522 and J523.
All the data found in the iOS 14.5 code hints at the imminent announcement of tablets. The company has not yet updated the Xcode platform for developers since early March. This usually happens when Apple prepares new hardware products but keeps them under wraps.
