As part of the large-scale Green Invest program, it is planned to build a large solar power plant in Kentucky. The main consumers of the energy generated by the new solar farm will be Facebook and General Motors. In particular, the future station will be able to generate about 145 MW of energy for the Facebook data center (DPC) in Nashville (Tennessee). General Motors’ Corvette facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky will receive about 28 megawatts of power.
The total capacity of the solar farm will exceed 170 MW. The Tennessee River Valley Administration (TVA, a state-owned enterprise), Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation and Silicon Ranch will participate in the project. Investments from Facebook will allow equipping the site with energy storage units with a total capacity of 120 MWh, which will ensure the flexibility of the station. The construction of the new farm is scheduled to begin next year and be completed in the fall of 2023.
It should be noted that in 2018, Facebook and TVA signed an agreement on the deployment of solar power plants with a total capacity of 377 MW. Previously, Silicon Ranch has already built a solar farm in the state of Georgia for the benefit of the social network (shown in the photo). In Singapore, Facebook has another “green” project – the company’s data center will be powered by solar panels with a total capacity of about 100 MW located on the rooftops. In total, the company has already purchased more than 5 GW of “clean” energy for its data centers.
