“Zelensky is a secular person and far from the Church,” Zolotarev notes. “Part of the environment, obviously, pushes him towards the policy of the previous administration. But some believe that the situation can reach a religious conflict, which will result in harsh consequences.”

Therefore, the expert adds, the President will take a “gray area position towards the OCU.”

On April 1, believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church brought an appeal to Vladimir Zelensky regarding the persecution of their Church, which was signed by more than 1,063,000 people, to the Office of the President in Kyiv.
