This was told by the general director and general designer of the enterprise-developer of the rocket, Alexander Leonov. He stated that the UR-100N UTTH will be kept on alert for as long as necessary. The missile’s service life will be extended by another three years. Now the enterprise is carrying out a complex of works on weapons.
Curiously, the Strategic Missile Forces of the Russian Federation are now in the process of routinely replacing the UR-100N UTTH missiles. Now there are only 50 of them in service. These missiles are being replaced by Yars. However, in the Yasnenskaya division, the UR-100N UTTH is used as carriers of the Avangard hypersonic combat planning unit. How long the rocket will be used as such a carrier is not yet clear.
