This year, the second stage of eliminating the digital divide in Russia begins: it provides for the provision of Internet access to settlements and the provision of mobile communication services where they are currently unavailable.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, high-speed Internet will come to villages and villages with 100-250 inhabitants, and mobile communications – to settlements with a population of 100-500 people.
During 2021, the project plans to install approximately 1200 base stations. In particular, 100 base stations will be installed in settlements with a population of 249 to 383 people, in settlements with a population of 250-500 people – 794.
At the same time, the decommissioning of payphones will begin where they are not currently in demand. All payphones in settlements with a population of more than a thousand people and all payphones in settlements with a population of less than a thousand people, traffic on which in 2020 was less than 1 minute per month, will be dismantled.
It is also noted that 250 access points will be additionally installed in settlements with a population of 500-1525 people. This will allow you to organize wireless Internet access in frequently visited places.
«By the end of this year, we will also connect all socially significant objects to the Internet, including educational organizations, feldsher and obstetric centers, state authorities and local self-government bodies. The Ministry of Digital Development is gradually solving these problems“, – said the department.
