Microsoft today announced that it is expanding support for Windows 10 Defender for Endpoint (formerly Defender Advanced Threat Protection) antivirus for ARM-based devices. Thus, Microsoft’s proprietary antivirus is now available to all users of devices running Windows 10 on ARM.
Microsoft sees the move to ARM devices as important because the architecture’s efficiencies allow for multiple device form factors and help people adapt to the new hybrid work environment. According to the developers, the security of such devices is one of the top priorities.
«ARM technology enables digital transformation with innovative new form factors, improved connectivity and mobility, instant-on technology and amazing battery life. These elements also enable organizations to support the transition to telecommuting and hybrid work environments – a transition that requires a safety-oriented mindset. As we continue to move forward in the new hybrid work environment, safety must be an integral part of this movement.“, – said in a message from the developers.
Microsoft also noted that the ARM version of the antivirus will have the same layout and functionality as the x86 version. This means that Windows users on ARM will have access to the same security features and analytics tools found in the standard version of Microsoft Defender.
