Facebook has started adding special tags to posts from pages that appear in users’ news feeds so that users can clearly understand who is who. These notes will include signatures such as “official”, “fan page” and “satirical page”.
The company said it has already begun testing the innovation in the US and will gradually begin tagging more messages. Facebook hasn’t explained why it’s adding these labels, but it’s clear that tagging satirical posts is pretty important. With an abundance of information flows, Internet users sometimes find it difficult to recognize comic news. In a certain context, they can even be seen as a type of disinformation.
This is not the first time a social network has attempted to separate credible news from controversial news. Last June, Facebook began labeling media that “fully or partially influenced by the government“. The company said it needs shortcuts to warn users about possible falsification of facts for strategic purposes of certain states.
