Scientists of the Pacific Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry. G.B. Elyakov (TIBOCH) FEB RAS and the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) studied the porin protein from the aquatic bacterium Yersinia ruckeri (Yersinia ruckeri), which causes infection in fish. This protein can change the growth cycle of human blood cancer cells.
Scientists have already tested the effect of the protein in mice. It turned out that the substance is toxic to cancer cells. That is, it can be used as a chemotherapeutic agent to destroy tumors. In addition, the drug will have less effect on healthy cells than conventional chemotherapy.
