Microsoft today announced that it has changed its policy for accessing multiplayer shareware games on Xbox consoles from today. These projects no longer require an active Xbox Live Gold subscription.
On PlayStation platforms, an active PlayStation Plus subscription has not been required for shareware multiplayer for several years. Now Microsoft has caught up with its rival Sony.
Recall that everything happened after the corporation decided to increase the cost of Xbox Live Gold. This news was so negatively received by the community that Microsoft immediately backed down – canceled the price hike and promised to untie shareware games from Xbox Live Gold.
There are over 50 shareware multiplayer games currently available on Xbox. Here is a complete list:
