‘I’m feeling a very luxe vibe this year. Last Christmas was a bit of a non-starter so it’s a double whammy year,’ says George Northwood, the A-list hairdresser who in the past few weeks has created a new ‘tob’ for Sienna Miller, long shiny waves for supermodel Kristen McMenamy and a sleek updo for Maria Sharapova.

Known for his undone and relaxed aesthetic, even Northwood has been tempted to dial things up a notch this festive season to make hair look extra special. Sophisticated, expensive and polished are the adjectives which he reaches for to describe the look he says is dominating this year. ‘It’s got a very regal feel,’ he explains.

‘If it’s a blow dry, it’s big, bouncy and blown-up. If it’s an updo, it’s done but undone,’ he notes, citing the Duchess of Sussex, with whom he worked when she was living in the UK, as an inspiration for getting that perfect balance of effortless with an ‘expensive, chic feeling to it’.
