‘This will be a watershed moment in our democracy’: Readers on No 10’s Covid pass plan

‘I am very grateful for the PM’s commitment and leadership in this pandemic’

@G.T. D.B:

“Boris has done a fantastic job for his country when he was asked to make life-saving decisions for us in this pandemic. Never forget his foresight to financial support, our own vaccine development and our own vaccine ordering rather than through the European Medicines Agency. I, for one, am very grateful for his commitment and leadership in this pandemic.”

‘This will be a watershed moment in our democracy’

@Ian Lovett:

“I wrote to my MP, Greg Clark (MP for Tunbridge Wells). I outlined my views against vaccination passports and further measures (Plan B). He wrote back promptly, telling me how he would vote against any such measures.

“He voted for the passports, measures and with the Government. He lied.

“I hope those from all parties (including Jeremy Corbyn) that voted against these draconian and unnecessary restrictions to our freedoms will continue to resist and fight against these undemocratic measures. This will be a watershed moment in our democracy.”

‘This was just one on the list of events we must surmount to get our country back’

@Susan Lundie:

“I was initially really dismayed, then tremendously grateful and proud of the noble core who stood for democracy and sanity. After that I bucked up and realised that this was just one on the list of events we must surmount to get our country back, which we will.

“Whatever the motives, democracy is threatened, probably has been for decades unnoticed, and we will have to fight for it. I don’t care what the odds are, true Britons, whatever race or creed will join together and do what we islanders have always done when threatened internally or from outside. Steadfastly refuse to accept regimentation and coercion.

“We know there are just over 100 souls in parliament on our side, and we know precisely who are not interested in serving the nation, whatever weasel words they employ. The masks are off, in more than one way.”

‘Vaccine passports will bring about the single biggest shift towards a totalitarian state’

@Sen. L

“All the MPs who vote for these divisive control tools, such as vaccine passports, should hang their heads in shame.

“Vaccine passports will bring about the single biggest shift towards a totalitarian state we have seen yet. The authorities can tag, track and control us at their whim, and we will be more like China than a free country.

“How can they do this to their own children and grandchildren? If they are naive enough not to see this, then they are not fit for office.”

‘Perhaps young people won’t mind showing a Covid pass to get into venues’

@David Rising:

“Curiously, there are queues around the block to get vaccinations made up by the younger people of society. Perhaps they are actually taking note of the near 60,000 cases and won’t mind showing a Covid pass to get into venues.

“I’m wondering if the 100 odd MPs will resign if there is 1.5 million cases in the new year.”
