Few market events are as potentially lucrative as the flotation of a promising new company – especially on the first day, when a stampede of new investors can create a happy share price “pop”. But not every flotation has had such a positive outcome this year.

Investors in some of 2021’s most high-profile listings, at food delivery giant Deliveroo, boots maker Dr Martens and card designer Moonpig, have been burnt: the shares are down by 21pc, 15pc and 12pc respectively from their opening price. 

There have been a handful of successes. Oxford Nanopore, the gene sequencing specialist, is up by 9pc since its float in October. Meanwhile, Auction Technology, a digital marketplace provider, has soared by 76pc since it listed in late February. 

It can be difficult for DIY investors to separate the wheat from the chaff before a company is public. But market watchers will have spotted that reports of possible IPOs are already circulating for next year. Here are three names to keep an eye out for in 2022.  

Imagination Technologies

Imagination Technologies is a chip designer, headquartered in Hertfordshire, whose products have featured in smartphones from the likes of Apple and Google. The Telegraph understands that the company is considering an IPO in 2022, either in London or in New York.
