From Chequers to checkers: David Cameron’s ‘ticket tout’ look is the talk of Twitter

David Cameron faced mockery for wearing a tartan fleece and a baseball cap, prompting a string of memes and the Culture Secretary to compare him to a ticket tout.

The former prime minister made the apparently controversial sartorial statement on Monday after appearing at the Heythrop Hunt Point-to-Point, an amateur horse racing event, in Cocklebarrow, Gloucestershire.

He attended the event alongside Samantha, his wife, who also donned a tartan coat.

However, the former Conservative leader’s choice of attire quickly captured the attention of social media, with many meme makers joking that the outfit made Mr Cameron look like a shady character who might frequent a pub or car boot sale.

Even Nadine Dorries, the Culture Secretary, who once described her one-time party leader as an “arrogant posh boy”, joined in on the mockery:
