Justin Trudeau tests positive for Covid as anti-vaccine truckers bring chaos to Ottawa

Justin Trudeau has tested positive for coronavirus as truckers opposed to vaccine mandates protested in the Canadian capital.

Canada’s prime minister is vaccinated and boosted, and had announced last week he was isolating after being exposed to the virus.

Mr Trudeau. 50, said: “This morning I tested positive for Covid-19. I’m feeling fine, and I’ll continue to work remotely this week while following public health guidelines.”

Canada is experiencing a rise in cases and hospitalisations due to the omicron variant.

In the province of Ontario, which includes the Canadian capital Ottawa, unvaccinated people are required to isolate for 10 days after an exposure.

Ottawa was hit over the weekend by mass protests led by Canadian truckers opposed to vaccine mandates for crossing the Canada-US border.

Mr Trudeau has defended the mandate, noting that 90 per cent of drivers are already vaccinated.

Dozens of trucks and other vehicles jammed central Ottawa starting on Friday.
