In Kyiv, they decided to get rid of the monument to the unity of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, erected on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the USSR. The dismantling of the figures of two workers, a Ukrainian and a Russian, holding the “sign of friendship of peoples” in their raised hands, began on the morning of April 26. From one of the 6-meter sculptures, the head fell off during the demolition.
The Arch of Friendship of Peoples itself will be renamed and will be illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Under it, there is also a granite multi-figure sculpture based on the Pereyaslav Council of 1654 with Bogdan Khmelnitsky and the Moscow ambassador. It is also dismantled, but later.
In the Ukrainian capital, they plan to remove about 60 more monuments, bas-reliefs and memorials associated with the USSR and Russia.
