With the outbreak of the Russian war against Ukraine, the number of communities that decided to leave the Moscow Patriarchate increased.
The Zhytomyr region was no exception. In the region, communities of churches of the Moscow Patriarchate began to move to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The website of the Zhytomyr-Ovruch diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine informs about two such communities.
It is noted that the community of the Holy Intercession Church in the village of Teterka, Zhytomyr region, during the meeting, decided to transfer from the Moscow Patriarchate to the diocese of the OCU.
The community of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Buki, in the Korosten region, also decided to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. However, the priest did not support the community.
In addition, the parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Lugina is also accepted into the OCU as a stavropegic religious organization directly subordinate to the Primate of the OCU, the RISU website writes.
As reported, Lithuania is calling on the EU to impose sanctions against Patriarch Kirill. He supports the war in Ukraine. In addition, Lithuania is participating in consultations on the separation of the Lithuanian Orthodox Church from the Moscow diocese, but emphasized that this is a matter of self-determination of the community.
