Thus, the Italian authorities intend to implement a policy of sanctions against Russian oil.
Italian Industry Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti plans to propose temporary nationalization of the ISAB refinery in Priolo, Sicily. This enterprise is indirectly owned by the Russian oil group Lukoil.
This is reported by Reuters, citing sources in the government.
The ISAB plant is the largest and most powerful refinery in Italy. Previously, 30-40% of Russian raw materials were purchased here, and the rest came from international markets.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, ISAB has been forced to buy almost all of its crude oil from Russian owner Lukoil as international banks no longer lend to it.
Local official Fiorenzo Amato said there were no production disruptions so far, but acknowledged that the refinery could run into problems if imports of Russian oil were stopped.
The Lukoil oil group is not yet subject to international sanctions imposed against several other Russian companies.
Recall that the United States and the European Union are discussing three possible options for imposing an embargo on oil from Russia because of its aggression against Ukraine.
