Russia is conducting an aggressive information and psychological operation aimed at suppressing the resistance of the population of the temporarily occupied Kherson region. In particular, several Telegram channels spread manipulations about the protests of Ukrainians in the region.
Thus, several Telegram channels that provide media support for the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine began to spread the thesis that allegedly “fewer people go to anti-Russian rallies.”
This was reported by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.
“According to propagandists, this is due to the fact that “Ukrainians have come to terms with the transition of the territory under the control of Russia and are adjusting to the new reality,” the Center noted.
They explained that such conclusions are manipulative, because the inhabitants of the temporarily occupied territories are aggressively intimidated by the occupying troops, who:
- threatened with physical harm for participating in rallies;
- shelling peaceful demonstrations in occupied cities;
- kidnap participants of pro-Ukrainian rallies.
“We note that the conduct of such operations is especially dangerous in the conditions of the information blockade that the enemy seeks to form in the temporarily occupied territories of southern Ukraine,” the JRC noted.
Recall that on April 27, dozens of people with posters and Ukrainian flags held a rally in Kherson . However, the Russian occupiers dispersed the protesters using tear gas and stun bombs.
