Three naval mines have already been destroyed in Turkey, and mine countermeasure ships, helicopters, maritime patrol aircraft and underwater defense teams are on alert.
To control the safety of navigation through the Bosphorus, Turkey has installed radars to detect sea mines.
This was stated by Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar after a meeting in Ramstein, CNN Türk reports .
“Now we are closely monitoring the Bosphorus. We have taken additional measures to control the entrance and exit, not to have any surprises, we have installed detection radars. At the moment, we can say that there are no problems with maritime traffic through the Bosphorus,” he said.
The Minister also stressed that the Turkish Armed Forces have advanced mine clearance capabilities. The country has enough elements and equipment for both detection and destruction.
Recall that on March 26, a drifting mine was discovered near the Bosphorus , so the Turkish authorities had to close the passage through the strait. An unknown object was reported by a civilian ship sailing through the Bosphorus.
