Since the beginning of the military aggression, in order to help Ukraine, dozens of foreign universities have simplified the conditions for admission for Ukrainian applicants, provided scholarships for free study abroad, and allocated additional places. To coordinate the admission of Ukrainians to foreign universities, several leading universities in Ukraine, together with the government, created a program to help Ukrainian applicants Ukrainian Global Universit y (UGU). This program helps Ukrainians to enter foreign educational institutions, provided that graduates return to Ukraine after their studies. Among the universities participating in this program are Stanford, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toronto, the University of Paris (Pantheon-Sorbonne), universities in Germany, Italy, the USA, Canada and other countries.
What universities offer for Ukrainian citizens under the UGU program
- Training programs . Most of the programs are bachelor’s and master’s, but there are also PhD programs and even for high school education. Now, for example, recruitment is underway for summer programs and autumn 2022. At the university, you can choose any program, but you need to keep in mind that the number of places in each direction is limited – from 10 to 20 places for bachelors, several PhDs per faculty. Education in English or in other languages, depending on the country where the educational institution is located.

How to apply abroad for free education under the Ukrainian Global University program
For admission, you need to go through two stages – the preliminary selection stage and the stage of admission directly to the university.
The qualifying stage of admission takes place remotely and lasts for several weeks. First of all, on the Ukrainian Global University website, you need to fill out a questionnaire , which is considered from 10 days or more. Take the Duolingo English Tes test on the Duolingo platform. The test consists of 5 types of tasks – writing, speaking, listening, reading, vocabulary. Additional testing is not required at most universities, as UGU guarantees that all participants who successfully pass the selection stage have a sufficient level of English. The minimum score you need to get is 85. If an applicant receives a passing score, he is invited to an interview with UGU representatives and volunteers from different countries.
In the second stage after the selection stage, UGU provides universities with a list of candidates recommended for admission. After that, applicants receive instructions for admission to the chosen university.
What are the criteria for selecting applicants for admission
In addition to knowledge of the English language, it is important to have a good grade point average at a university or school . Each school has its own minimum threshold.
Revealing the motivation of applicants is the main purpose of the interview. The main condition for participation in the program is the return to Ukraine, so candidates must prove that they want to return to their homeland. It is assumed that at the stage when candidates are enrolled in universities, it is most likely necessary to draw up the relevant documents about this.
How to apply abroad right after high school
After grade 11, Ukrainian students will be able to enter colleges or universities. In addition, before entering a higher educational institution, applicants can enter a boarding school (grades 11-12), which UGU advises to do. The fact is that abroad, students complete their secondary school education at the age of 18-19.
