NVIDIA has released a video in which NVIDIA Senior Product Manager Sean Pelletier talks about the progress made in developing drivers for GeForce graphics accelerators, and also shared some interesting facts about the development of Game Ready drivers.
It has been seven years since the launch of the Game Ready driver program. During this time, the company has released 150 graphics driver packages for its graphics cards, providing support for over 400 games. Pelletier noted that in 2021 alone, NVIDIA released 20 graphics driver versions with support and optimizations for 75 new games.
When developing each new version of the driver, the company pays a lot of attention to testing. So, in 2021, NVIDIA conducted about 1000 different tests per day, using more than 4500 different PC configurations with different models of video cards, central processors and RAM. In total, over 1.8 million hours were spent on these purposes.
NVIDIA is very proud that every new driver version is WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certified. This means that the software has been tested in the Microsoft labs for compatibility with many different editions of the Windows operating system.
Here, the NVIDIA representative even “pricked” the competitors, saying that they most often release to the public first a beta version of the graphics driver, and then after some time bring them to WHQL versions.
According to NVIDIA, the latest version of the graphics driver contains over 25 million lines of code, which is equivalent to the amount of code in the control systems of modern airliners.
