What a grotesque perversion of cause and effect! Why do other weapons not lead to the Third World War, namely German weapons will cause a war, ”said Friedrich Merz, head of the CDU / CSU faction.

The most opposition faction threatened to put the question to a roll call, which would have been a serious blow to the chancellor personally, but at the last moment a compromise was found. Only Putin’s traditional friends, the Left Party and the German far right, opposed the supply of heavy weapons. They are already waiting for the end of the war, and it will be possible to build friendly relations with Russia again.

“I say clearly – Germany is not at war, neither with Ukraine, nor with Russia! The majority of the German population do not want to be involved in this war and do not want to participate in this war,” said Tino Khrupalla, head of the Alternative for Germany faction.

Despite this, the parliament supported the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine by a majority vote. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was not present at the discussion in Parliament. But he went on a business trip to Japan. For the opposition, there is another reason for criticism – both for the indecisive position of the chancellor on providing assistance to Ukraine with weapons, and for unwillingness to talk about it.

But from Tokyo, the chancellor said that he welcomed the decision of the parliamentarians. “We support the US decision to provide Ukraine with 18 howitzers. We organize training in Germany for Ukrainians to effectively manage tanks. Here we also cooperate with the Netherlands. We will also decide to provide anti-aircraft installations “Gepard” for protection from the air. All this is in line with the decision that our Parliament has adopted today,” he said. .

However, Berlin does not dare to supply the latest developments of the German defense industry to Ukraine directly. Soviet-style tanks will be handed over to Kyiv by Slovenia, and Germany will gradually compensate for this with its tanks. A similar trilateral arms exchange is already being planned with the Czech Republic.
