MediaTek has officially unveiled the long-awaited Dimensity 8000 and 8100 sub-flagship 5G chipsets, which will form the basis of many mainstream smartphones this year. These are eight-core 5nm solutions manufactured by TSMC and, in fact, are the same chip with different operating frequencies with one difference: the older Dimensity 8100 is able to support not only FHD + screens at 168 Hz, but QHD + at 120 Hz. Architectural innovations include four powerful Cortex-A78 cores at 2.75 GHz (2.85 GHz in the case of Dimensity 8100), four economical Cortex-A55 up to 2.0 GHz, and a new APU 580 for AI computing.

Despite the fact that the graphics accelerator for both new products is the same (Mali-G610 MC6), MediaTek promises a 20% increase in gaming performance in the case of Dimensity 8100 with a 25% increase in energy efficiency. Both new products are equipped with a new image processor that supports cameras up to 200 MP, 4K@60fps video capture and HDR video. In addition, the chips work with all advanced wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. Smartphones based on them will go on sale by the end of March, and Xiaomi and Realme solutions will be among the first.
