The consequences of the events unfolding in Ukraine are leading to ever larger consequences around the world. So, Apple plans to reduce the production of the new iPhone SE 2022 by 20% in the next quarter, the Japanese edition of Nikkei Asia reported today, citing sources in the industry. The company has told several of its suppliers it intends to cut orders by around 2-3 million units for the quarter due to lower demand expectations. A similar fate has touched the AirPods, the release of which will be cut by more than 10 million units in 2022. A request to reduce the production of the iPhone 13 line by 2 million units is also mentioned, but this adjustment is allegedly based on seasonal demand.
As Nikkei Asia notes, all this is not least due to the cessation of supplies to Russia and the predictable drop in demand for smartphones in the Ukrainian market. According to IDC researchers, in Russia, Apple occupies about 16% of the market, having sold about 5 million iPhones in 2021.
