The invaders stole Scythian gold from the Melitopol Museum of Local Lore. A unique collection of the 4th century. BC e. the Russian military was helped to find local collaborators.
It is not yet known where they took the stolen artifacts.
The mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, spoke about this on the air of a single telethon, writes Suspіlne.
The city administration and museum workers hid the collection of Scythian gold back in February. Since that time, Russian invaders and local collaborators have been actively looking for him.
“In pro-Russian public sites, a video was shown of how the “director” of the local history museum, Evgeny Gorlachev, appointed by the Russians, says that his like-minded people spent a lot of effort and energy to find Scythian gold that was hidden by the museum staff. In fact, the location of the collection was given out by collaborators,” confirms the words Fedorov place edition mltpl.city.
“Melitopol” Scythian gold
According to scientists, as a precious metal, Scythian gold is not significant, but as a historical artifact, it is priceless. In particular, this is stated in the fourth part of the documentary “Night at the Museum”.
Archaeologists discovered Scythian gold in a Scythian mound in Melitopol, accidentally found by a local resident, in 1954. Then they found unique coins and jewelry, as well as Greek-Scythian toreutics (chasing) with the image of Achilles.
This product was a gift from the Greeks to the Scythians, it is considered one of the most valuable archaeological finds on the territory of Ukraine. It was planned to transfer it to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, but Ukrainian scientists managed to create their own museum in Kyiv – the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine, and this coinage is stored there.
Part of the Melitopol collection was transferred to Russia, and part remained in Melitopol.
Recall that the military of the Russian Federation, having captured the Melitopol city museum of local lore, took away the Scythian gold. They claim that they allegedly “saved” the artifact from the former employees of the institution. Like, they wanted to take him out of the country.
