The protracted special operation is beginning to push global companies to new, even more serious decisions in relation to the Russian market. So, this morning Nokia announced its withdrawal from the Russian market. A month earlier, tech giant HMD Global, which owns Nokia, suspended exports of its products . Now we are talking about a complete stop of business and the transfer of research activities outside the country. At the same time, based on the principle of the importance of maintaining people’s uninterrupted access to information and the Internet, Nokia promises to provide the necessary support for maintaining the infrastructure of telecommunications networks in Russia.
The company calls this “the most responsible course of action when leaving the Russian market,” which one cannot but agree with. At the same time, Nokia does not expect serious financial consequences from such a decision: it is reported that in 2021 Russia accounted for less than 2% of net sales, and therefore this is unlikely to be reflected in the final financial forecast for 2022.
