Remington Power X6 HC6000 hair clipper review

The X6 HC6000 hair clipper is a representative of the older, more expensive and “advanced” series of Remington machines. What has improved in comparison with the younger model X3? The main differences are a more powerful motor, a turbo function, a nozzle with a 0.1 mm pitch (for cutting from 1 to 5 mm), as well as three nozzle combs, as opposed to two on the X3. And, of course, the price – it has almost doubled.

Let’s take a closer look at the Remington X6 HC6000 and find out if it’s worth paying extra for the extra features and functionality.

Equipment

The design of the box turned out to be exactly the same as that of the younger X3 model. If you do not look closely, then the devices can even be confused. And there are quite a few differences between them!

The machine comes in a compact cardboard box, decorated in a simple style: full-color glossy photos of the device itself and its main elements are shown on a white background. The manufacturer notes the presence of four nozzles for adjusting the length of the haircut and a powerful motor with “5 times the performance.”

On the side faces and on the back are photos of the control wheel, nozzles, LED display and other details that deserve attention. For all of them, a description is given in the main European languages, including Russian.

Contents are packaged in an additional box of technical cardboard, as well as in plastic bags.

Opening the package, we found inside:

  • the clipper itself
  • three plastic combs
  • micro fade attachment
  • Charger
  • cleaning brush
  • bottle of oil
  • instructions and warranty card

As we can see, the equipment of the machine is quite standard: the manufacturer made sure that the user finds in the box everything necessary to start operating and care for the device.

At first sight

When meeting, the clipper makes an excellent impression. At the same time, the resemblance to the younger model X3 catches the eye: both devices have a similar design. On the one hand, this is good: the device is easily recognized on store shelves and immediately makes it clear to which “family” it belongs.

On the other hand, due to the external similarity, it may seem that we have two identical devices in front of us, practically no different from each other, while in reality this is not the case. Like the junior model, the body of the X6 is made of black matte plastic. True, this time the front part was replaced with gray plastic.

On the front side, as before, we see the Remington logo, above it is the name of the X6 model, even higher is the LED indicator – this time it is digital.

The area under the knives is covered with a decorative “mesh” that makes it easier to grip. Plastic here is felt as softer, which we write down as pluses. However, the manufacturer for some reason increased the depth of the cells, which is why dirt and particles of cut hair get stuck in the case much more “effectively”.

On the back there is a wheel for adjusting the length of the haircut using nozzles (from 3 to 13 mm, from 14 to 24 mm and from 25 to 35 mm), the selected mode is displayed in the corresponding window. The side of the wheel is also covered in mesh and feels like soft-touch plastic. You can rotate the wheel both left and right.

At the bottom there are inscriptions with the model number and technical information. A faucet with flowing water is also drawn here: the device allows cleaning with running water.

The grip area on the sides of the machine is slightly recessed and has a ribbed surface that makes it easier to hold the device in your hand.

Now let’s look at the knives. The cutting mechanism Remington X6 consists of two parts. The first of them is a movable metal knife, the second part is a fixed knife. The material of self-sharpening knives is “Japanese steel”. The manufacturer reports that over time, the knives do not lose their sharpness and do not require additional sharpening. The width of the blade is 4.5 cm, the cutting part is 4 cm.

Unlike the younger version, the X6 knife block is removed without any difficulties. It snaps off with a slight push and is just as easy to put back on. The design of the knives is very similar to what we have already seen in the younger X3 model.

On the sides, next to the knives, there are recesses for installing nozzles. In the kit, we found three plastic nozzles – for cutting hair from 3 to 13 mm, from 14 to 24 mm and from 25 to 35 mm, as well as a micro-fade nozzle with an adjustable wheel in 0.1 mm increments (from 1 mm to 5 mm).

Thus, our machine received a larger working range and more precise adjustment for forming short bristles.

The nozzles are installed into the housing with little effort and snapped (fixed) in the working position. The “legs” of the nozzles during installation must fall into the recesses intended for them on the body. On each of the nozzles it is written for a haircut of what length it is intended. The inscriptions are applied in different colors, a similar color marking is used on the adjustment wheel, so you can easily understand which window indicating the length of the haircut (in millimeters) you need to look.

The nozzles themselves look neat but not too reliable. It becomes especially alarming for them at the moment when you need to remove the nozzle, grabbing onto it harder and applying some effort. In general, we would not recommend dropping them.

At the bottom of the machine is a connector for connecting the power adapter. The adapter itself looks pretty standard (5V, 1A). The connector complies with the Micro-USB standard, while the connector on the wire has an additional plastic “tongue”, the purpose of which, apparently, is to provide a more reliable grip between the wire and the machine.

The length of the cord is 1.8 m, which in this case is of great importance – because the machine can be used directly from the network.

For proper care, the kit includes oil for the blades and a brush to clean the mechanism from hair trimmings.

Like the younger model, everything is more than worthy. When we met, the machine pleased us with both its appearance and equipment.

Instruction

The User’s Guide is a compact booklet printed on black and white paper. The share of the Russian language accounts for seven pages, having studied which we can get all the necessary information about the rules for operating and caring for the device.

It also contains recommendations on what length of hair is better to choose for different parts of the head, and in what order you need to cut your hair.

In general, despite the fact that there is not too much information here, all of it seemed useful and interesting for us to study.

Control

The machine has two controls: the power button, as well as the wheel for switching the length of the haircut.

The power button has three positions: off / on / turbo mode.

Changing the length of the haircut is done by turning the wheel clockwise or counterclockwise. The rotation itself occurs in steps, with a slight click. In this case, the nozzle extends from the device body (or vice versa – moves inward). You can rotate the wheel both to the right and to the left.

The set length is displayed as numbers in the boxes, and the color matches the color marking on the comb attachment. When using the micro-fade attachment, the length of the haircut is adjusted directly on the attachment itself.

Next to the model name is an LED indicator that displays the remaining operating time in minutes (if the machine is on), the selected mode (normal or turbo), as well as an indicator for connecting to the charger. When the charge comes to an end, the values on the display will flash.

Exploitation

Before using the machine for the first time, you need to charge it for 2 hours. Subsequently, to extend the life of the machine, you need to fully discharge the battery every 6 months.

The device can be used both in wired and wireless mode. When running on battery, the developer promises us up to 90 minutes of work. But we are advised not to get carried away with the mode of use with the power cord – this reduces the life of the battery. We also note that when connected to a regular USB port, the machine will only charge, but will not work.

Wash, dry and comb your hair before cutting. The machine allows you to choose the length of the haircut in the range from 3 to 35 mm in 1 mm increments. For cutting hair close to the skin, you can use it without any combs. Thus, the length of the haircut will be 1 mm, and if you hold the machine with the blades perpendicular to the skin, then 0.5 mm. The micro-fade attachment will allow you to set a more precise hair length when trimming your stubble.

For an even trim, the comb attachment or blade must cut a path through the hair. No force is needed to speed up the process.

The developer recommends starting at the back of the neck (3 or 6 mm), then go to the back of the head (12 or 18 mm), then to the side of the head (3 or 6 mm), then trim the hair from above (24 mm) and finally , create a contour at the base and sides of the neck without a comb attachment.

During operation, we noted that the machine cuts hair clearly and accurately and never catches (does not pull). We did not meet any unpleasant sensations: the haircut process turned out to be as comfortable as possible for both the hairdresser and our test subject.

We rate the shearing speed as moderate, the quality as rather high. The automatic turbo mode is activated when the appliance requires more power. The battery charge in this mode is consumed faster, so you should turn it on manually only if necessary.

In comparison with the younger model, we can subjectively note the increased power of the motor, and, as a result, a slightly higher cutting speed. But the quality of the haircut remains the same high: the hair is cut neatly and quickly, the machine moves easily and confidently. Using this device is a pleasure!

Care

To ensure a long service life of the machine, you need to regularly clean the blades and the body of the device. After each use, the blades should be cleaned with a brush, and the body should be wiped with a damp cloth and dried immediately. The blades should be periodically lubricated by dropping a few drops of oil on them.

The blades can also be washed under running water after removing them from the body. In the younger model X3, you had to use a screwdriver to do this. On the X6, the blades snap off and are removed in one easy movement and are just as easy to put back on.

Despite the fact that the manufacturer promises us a “fully washable” machine, the instructions prohibit immersing the trimmer in water.

In general, the care of the device and everyday cleaning has become a little easier than that of the X3, but has not fundamentally changed.

Our measurements

During the charging process, the machine consumes up to about 4.3 watts. A fully discharged battery charges in 1 hour and 40 minutes. At the same time, electricity consumption is minimal – less than 0.1 kWh.

We measured battery life through a series of 5-minute turns on (with pauses after each start). Our machine worked 10 inclusions for 5 minutes, which amounted to only 50 minutes (versus 90 declared by the manufacturer). At the same time, the charge indicator practically did not lie, and on the whole reflected the real state of affairs. Although it showed 90 minutes on a full battery charge, it soon began to adjust its readings to match the actual remaining run time.

practice tests

We checked how the machine copes with cutting various parts of the head (beard, mustache, nape, temples) with different nozzles and recorded our feelings and subjective impressions. To start the test, we “armed ourselves” with rather long hair and a beard, which allowed us to make a full-fledged haircut. We tested two cars at once – our X6 and the younger X3 model. Accordingly, we cut the right half of the head X3, and the left – X6.

Looking ahead, we will say that the general impressions of the haircut with both machines remained very similar, and the quality of the haircut in both cases turned out to be equally high – in some cases we are not even sure if we could distinguish the result “blindly”.

This is what our test subject looked like at the beginning of the test.

And this is what the beard looked like (the hair is already cut here).

Maximum length (35mm)

To begin with, we used the largest nozzle and set the maximum length to 35 mm. A special haircut did not happen here, but our experimental subject began to look more neat and well-groomed.

We were able to get rid of individual protruding hairs and prepare for the start of a full-fledged haircut.

Result: good

Nozzle 24 mm

Well, let’s proceed directly to the haircut.

They cut it in two passes – the first one was rough, to remove the bulk of the hair, the second – more carefully, paying attention to problem areas. Then they walked in places for the third time – to catch especially naughty hairs.

In just a couple of minutes, we managed to cut half of the head (in the photo – on the left). The back of the head began to look more neat (although the length of the hair did not change much).

From above, the hair was also cut neatly (on the temples and sides, we first went through the “six” to make the haircut look more expressive).

We were more than pleased with the overall result, as well as the impressions of the haircut.

Result: excellent

Nozzle 6 mm

We then moved on to shortening the hair at the back. The lower part of the head and neck was cut to a fixed length of 6 mm.

The machine coped with the haircut confidently. Here the turbo mode came in handy, which turned on automatically and slightly accelerated the cutting process.

In terms of the quality of the haircut, we could hardly distinguish the X3 from the X6: the left and right halves of the head were cut equally neatly.

Result: excellent

Nozzle 9 mm

The next stage is the formation of the transition using a 9 mm nozzle. With its help, we cut the back of the head and the back of the head.

Both machines coped with this task equally well from one pass.

Result: excellent

Haircut without attachment

Finally, we took the clipper without attachment and cut off the excess hair on the neck, forming a straight line.

We also coped with this task quickly and without any problems. Of course, it would be better to use a razor, but we are testing a clipper!

If necessary, you can create a smooth transition from 0 to 6 mm using the micro-fade attachment.

Result: good

beard trim

Finally, we tested how well the machine will handle the beard. This was the original length of the bristles.

First we used a 6 mm nozzle. The whole process took about a minute.

The next step is 3 mm. Here the process went even faster – it was almost not necessary to catch individual hairs.

Finally, the minimum length is a haircut without attachments. Here we see the presence of some “errors”: not all hairs were cut equally short. The reason, obviously, is that we were not always able to keep the machine at the same angle to the skin.

On the whole, we were pleased with the result. We came to the conclusion that our machine is not very suitable for “shaving”, but it copes more than successfully with the formation of bristles of the required length.

Result: good

findings

The Remington X6 HC6000 clipper proved to be a successful development of the series. Compared to the younger model X3, we got a removable blade unit that can be washed under running water (which makes cleaning the machine easier), the ability to charge from a regular USB adapter and two additional nozzles – for long hair and for precise shaping of bristles in the range of 1 up to 5 mm.

The X6 also has a turbo clipping function that can be turned on manually or left to be activated at the discretion of the device. According to our subjective impressions, using this mode, you can cut your hair about 20% faster.

For the convenience of the user, a charge indication has also been added – now we can always find out how many minutes the device will work before turning it off. According to the manufacturer, X6 can work up to 90 minutes. However, our measurements showed that the device turned off after 50 minutes of operation in standard mode. Perhaps this is the only claim to the machine (perhaps to this particular instance).

In general, we can say that the X6 is a worthy development of the series: the quality of the haircut turned out to be consistently high, and new design solutions will make the use of the device more convenient. Is it worth almost doubling the price compared to the younger model – everyone can decide for themselves.

Pros :

  • 4 nozzles
  • remaining operating time indication
  • long battery life
  • the ability to work from the network

Cons :

  • Battery life is less than advertised
